SmallRig AD-Pro8 Overview

The AD-Pro8 Professional Fluid Head Tripod Kit from SmallRig is a durable and portable video tripod system for professional photographers, videographers, and vloggers. The system includes the PH8 professional tripod fluid head and heavy-duty carbon fiber tripod legs. A carry bag is included to store and transport the entire system.

The durable fluid head features a Manfrotto 501PL-type quick release plate with a snap-in plate design, a 75mm half ball base that can support up to 17.6 lb, 6-step counterbalance, 4-step pan/tilt drag settings, 360° panning, and +90/-60° tilting. A telescoping pan handle extends from 13.8 to 20.9" in length, and it can rotate 360° on the right or left rosette.

The carbon fiber legs feature removable spiked feet, a mid-level spreader, and a ground spreader for added stability options. It allows you to extend your camera rig from 22.8 to 77.2" in height. It folds down to 38" in length for transport.

Tri pod was great up until the tripod plate knob would not tighten. Exchanged it for a new one and it had the same problem, but also one of the feet were out of line so I could not put on the floor spreader. I appreciate B&H for helping me out and letting me return it. However I would not recommend this tri pod.

The first unit I received was incorrectly assembled. It was physically impossible to attach the bottom spreader, as two of the feet were misaligned by at least 15 degrees. The fluid head also had issues, tilt setting 2 offered less drag than setting 1, and setting 3 was roughly equal to setting 1. B&H replaced it for me and the next unit was assembled correctly. Pros: It’s a nice set of sticks, lightweight, but feels solid. The height is great, and a main reason I bought it. Can see right over the heads of a crowd with no problem. Single locking leg adjustment lever is nice, smooth extension. Dual leg spreaders included (mid level and ground). Camera plate snaps in from the top or slides in from the front or back which is nice. Cons: As others have commented, the feet do seem plasticky and cheap. The fluid head is ok, but you will see some backlash using a longer lens (say, 100mm full frame). I also own an E-Image 2-Stage Aluminum Tripod with GH06 Head and the GH06 head outperforms this head in terms of smoothness and backlash control. But with skill and a steady hand you can get a good result with this head too. I got this on sale and would say it is worth the price I paid for it.

Will this head fit the DJI RS mounting plate?

No, the SmallRig AD-Pro8 Professional Fluid Head Tripod Kit does not have the dual-compatibility head quick release that works with DJI. The PH8 fluid head adopts a new Touch-and-Go quick release mount plate design, which does not require alignment and is more efficient than traditional slide-in plates. Moreover, it is compatible with Manfrotto quick release plates.
