Tilta TA-AMB5-B Reviews
Doesn’t fit my NATO (Mid49)
I ordered this to mount a filtros 6” monitor sideways off of a Mid49 TWIST double-sided NATO rail. In theory, it would be perfect, since the “tilt” axis would allow me to fold the monitor back to be parallel with the lens, packed down against the camera (unlike Mid49’s many different mounting options for the TWIST system). But alas... the tilta clamp is way too tight, even open all the way up, to get onto the Mid49 outer rail (left-side). It DOES fit onto the inner side rail, but that’s just not good for monitor mounting... It also won’t fit into Tilta’s own NATO top handle extension for C50. The manufacturing tolerances on this unit are a complete waste... but the rest of the piece felt like it would have worked well!
Clearly Inconsistent
As of writing this review there is only one other for this product, rating it 5 stars. While I don't doubt that customers good experience with this mount, I have had mine behave the exact opposite of theirs: My pan is not at all dampened and my monitor (SmallHD 7") spins back and forth way too easily. The anti-rotation pins are spaced too far apart; I would hope that these pins have a standardized size and regulation but clearly it is brand-specific which is a shame. It still holds my monitor tight even with those pins retracted but I would've preferred the peace of mind. For the dovetail rail with which this DOES work, the locking lever (which is an excellent feature btw) does NOT spin 180°. Close but not quite. It does stick out a tiny bit. Lastly the outer gripping rails on the dovetail female clamp are too thick and don't work with my smallrig dovetail rail because they rub against the body of the cage or camera it is mounted to. It is like having too-small tires for a car and the bottom is scraping the road. Ultimately this mount is unusable because of its propensity to spin. A shame because it would've been key in helping downsize and stabilize/solidify my tiny FX6, which I am always attempting to use with as few moving parts attached as possible.
