Q1: Could I record, with 2 of these, 2 different live cameras (Nikon z6IIIs) recording in 4K and have them import live to my MacBook M5 Max (128Gb/4TB SSD) ? Q2: Would that allow me to see both camera feeds on my MacBook side by side? Q3: could I both Stream those feeds and have them record to my SSD, or do they stream(or record) and I get the recordering back up from my CFexpress card(s)?
Asked by: Ken
Hello there! Yes, with two 4K X, you can bring each Z6III feeds into your MacBook in 4K. Connect each 4K X to its own USB-C port rather than through a dock or hub so each one gets full bandwidth. In software like OBS Studio, you can place both feeds side by side and stream and record at the same time, saving directly to your internal SSD. If you want an extra backup, you can also record in-camera to each Z6III’s CFexpress card while it outputs over HDMI.

According to the manufacturer, the Elgato Game Capture 4K X uses ultralow latency technology for high resolution passthrough. The latency on a 1080p 60fps passthrough should be zero.

The description says the 4K capture is only for Windows. Is that still the case or have things changed?
Asked by: Ken
Hello there! 4K X captures in 4K on both macOS and Windows, and you can record directly to your computer with Elgato Studio. The one exception is HDR capture, which is currently Windows-only. On Mac, 4K X passes HDR through to your display and captures in SDR.
