It's a step-up ring. Still, being brass is spun on easily and smoothly and mated the front of the Nikon enlarger lens to the BR-2A F-mount adapter securely, no wiggles or any movement at all. Letting me reverse mount the lens to my PB-6 bellows for macro photography.
