1" Exmor RS CMOS Sensor
The PXW-Z200's 1.0"-type Exmor RS CMOS sensor uses its stacked design to provide optimal image quality, faster readout speeds, and excellent low-light performance. It produces extraordinary 4K imagery using 5K oversampling with full-pixel readout.
Longer 20x Optical Zoom
Capture views ranging from close-ups to wide angles in tight interiors using the 20x G-series zoom equivalent to a 35mm full-frame 24-480mm. Tap the Clear Image Zoom function to expand the zoom range to 30x in 4K and 40x in HD.
BIONZ XR Processing
The latest BIONZ XR TM image processor enables higher frame rates, faster autofocus, improved ATW control, and excellent noise reduction. Extracting maximum performance from the high-resolution image sensor lets you capture the most subtle textures and finest detail. 5K oversampling with full-pixel readout condenses ample image information into stunning UHD 4K60 video.
Advanced AI-Assisted Autofocus
  • The PXW-Z200's AI-assisted deep learning provides precise human-subject recognition.
  • With 81% coverage, its Fast Hybrid autofocus system offers better support for both Subject Recognition AF and Real-Time Tracking.
Auto Framing
Reliably keep track of your subjects using the Auto Framing function, which automatically recognizes human forms and adjusts the frame to keep your subject centered. Especially handy for solo shooters, Auto Framing mimics manual capture while letting you engage with your subject.
Flexible Frame Rates
Record up to UHD 4K60 video and high frame rates of up to UHD 4K120 and 1080p HD at 240 fps. Slow motion rates include 4x at 4K30 and 5x at 4K24p with high-speed autofocus to keep your subject sharp.
Pro Broadcast and Film Looks
  • Presets for S-Cinetone, ITU709, 709tone, HLG Live, HLG Mild, and HLG Natural can be further tweaked with black, matrix, and other adjustments.
  • The PXW-Z200's content can be color-matched with footage from other Sony broadcast and Cinema Line cameras.
12G-SDI Connectivity
This camcorder's interface includes up to 12G-SDI output, timecode input and output, genlock, USB-A, USB-C, LAN, REMOTE, and additional connectors.
Full Auto Mode
When the action gets too hectic, you can simply switch to a fully automatic mode with a single switch. Auto settings include ND, Iris, Gain, Shutter, and White Balance modes.
Built-In Variable ND Filter
  • The PXW-Z200 incorporates a variable ND filter function.
  • Provides a wide 1/4 to 1/128 ND range.
  • Use the variable ND to seamlessly adjust your exposure with the twist of a dial.
Easy File Transfers
The PXW-Z200 lets you upload proxy and original clips straight from a memory card to a cloud or FTP server. Transfer files automatically when each recording stops after registering the destination server in the camera. You can even record proxy clips in segments and transfer them sequentially during recording. The optional, paid Creator's Cloud for Enterprise C3 Portal application makes cloud transfers easy with even quicker availability of video files for editing and sharing.
Live Streaming
  • Stream directly from the camera using Wi-Fi or via a wired Ethernet connection.
  • You can stream to compatible platforms using RTMP/RTMPS and SRT protocols.
Advanced White Balance
The PXW-Z200's ATW (Auto-Tracing Balance) offers improved performance, even in shaded areas.
Advanced Image Stabilization
Built-in image stabilization minimizes camera shake, giving you the smoothest footage possible. Active Mode stabilization uses both optical and electronic elements to make your handheld shots look like you used a gimbal.
OLED Viewfinder and 3.5" LCD
  • The PXW-Z200 offers an OLED viewfinder and a 3.5" articulated LCD for monitoring your capture.
  • The high-contrast OLED EVF provides a clear 2.36MP view while blocking ambient light.
  • The LCD can be positioned for the best view, and it comes with a sun hood.
Recording Options
  • A choice of recording options means you can select the best solution for each project you capture. Choose XAVC S-I for the highest quality, post-friendly 10-bit 4:2:2 4K (QFHD) recording using Intra-Frame H.264.
  • XAVC HS-L (H.265) and XAVC S-L (H.264) provide a choice of 4:2:2 or 4:2:0 with Long GOP recording for extended recording times and file-saving efficiency.
  • XAVC HS enables the recording of smaller proxy files (up to 16 Mb/s) for previewing and editing.
  • Broadcast-friendly MXF wrapping will be available with a firmware update in the summer of 2025.
Dual Memory Card Slots
The PXW-Z200 provides two memory card slots compatible with both CFexpress Type A and SD cards.
Wireless Remote Control and Monitoring
  • Use the built-in Wi-Fi connectivity with the Monitor & Control app.
  • Check your framing and monitor, and adjust camera controls.
4-Channel Audio
Combine the MI (multi-interface) shoe and XLR connectors to record up to four channels of audio. Audio dials let you quickly adjust levels for two channels without needing to scroll through a menu tree.
Sony Battery Power
Like many other Sony cameras, the PXW-Z200 camcorder uses BP-U35, BP-U70, or BP-U100 packs, enabling you to use your existing supply of batteries.

Sony PXW-Z200 Reviews

Z200 + HC-X2 = perfect event camera, but neither individually

If you could combine the Sony Z200 with the Panasonic HC-X2 you'd have the perfect camcorder. Nonetheless the Z200 is overall the best event camcorder I've ever used in over 30 years. The Autofocus is magic and since it is, the focus ring can be re-assigned to be the iris, since it only has two rings. It's physically about the same size as the old Panasonic AG HMC-150 which was a workhorse camcorder and the perfect size for run & gun. Basically the Sony Z200 would be perfect if the variable zoom was smoother via remote (like the Panasonic HC-X2) and if it had more codecs like the HC-X2 does. The A7 series and FX30, FX3 have regular XAVC S which is widely universal, but the Z200 only uses newer versions like XAVC HS-L, XAVC S-L, and XAVC-I ,plus MXF . They should add that the regular XAVC S to the Z200. Also for long events AVCHD is still useful for shooting lots of hours in a day when you don't need UHD or 50Mbit HD, but the Sony does not have that codec either, whereas the HC-X2 does. Remember, this is supposed to be a run & gun event camera too. The Z200 is certainly not as good at 0db in low light as the Panasonic HC-X2 and the Z200 draws a lot of power so use the BIG batteries. I'd actually prefer the HC-X2 over the Z200 if the autofocus was as good, but in dance recitals the Panasonic just fails on solos or if there is fog, whereas the Z200 works magically. Also. I wish they'd make an option for a 4-4.5" LCD screen because cameras are notorious for small screens. Life would be so much easier with a bigger screen without having to rig an extra one

Simply terrific, reliable, fantastic super high quality

The DJI mic 2 could mount to the MI-Shoe of the Sony PXW-Z200 4K 1" CMOS Sensor XDCAM Camcorder. However, only Sony mics can connect electronically. The DJI Mic 2 would connect via the 3.5 mm mic input of the PXW-Z200. The 3.5 mm TRS cable is provided with the DJI Mic 2 kit.
