This L-plate improves the handling characteristics of the X-M5 so dramatically, you'll wonder why Fujifilm didn't build it in and use that space for something useful. It's a well though-out design, giving you plenty of space to access the front control dial and mating very securely to the camera. You pick up the grip, some protection to the bottom of your camera, more 1/4-20 threading on the bottom for.....I don't know what for. But it's there. And, of course, the Arca plate. Having a nice long Arca plate resolves Fujifilm's odd decision to put the tripod mount off to the left of the lens center on this camera. The battery door opens fully and the strap mount is perfect for wriststrap users. Build quality is nice, fit and finish is nice. It's another winner from Smallrig. The included soft release is kinda cool, if overstated. The mini deadcat thing is clever if you are a big user of the camera's onboard mics, which I am not, so I cannot speak to whether it works or not. I came for the L-plate, and that is five stars, for sure.
