Can I use my many DX and full-frame lenses I've been shooting with with my Nikon D500?
You can use any Nikon F-mount lenses that you have been using with the D500, on the Nikon Z50 II Mirrorless Camera with Essentials+ Kit, if you use the Nikon FTZ II Mount Adapter (BH # NIFTZ2 MFR # 4264).

I have a Nikon D500. I primarily shoot portraits and birds. Would this be a better choice? Why?
The Nikon Z50 II Mirrorless Camera with Essentials+ Kit is a very good camera. And it has many of the same features as the D500. FPS, autofocus, and such are very similar. The Z50II has a much newer processor that can make it better in low light than the D500. Both do not have still image stabilization built in. In a mirrorless, many do prefer that. In Nikon it would be a jump to a full frame like the Nikon Z6 III Mirrorless Camera, BH #NIZ63 (https://bhpho.to/4qm1lRh).

Do Z lenses offer any advantages over the DX and full frame lenses I've been using with my D500 other than weight?
Z-mount lenses are the only compatible lenses for the Nikon Z50 II Mirrorless Camera. There are DX Z-mount lenses and full-frame Z-mount lenses, all of which are compatible with the Z50 II. You can use F-mount (the type of lens that's compatible with the D500) lenses on the Z50 II, if you use the Nikon FTZ II Mount Adapter (BH #NIFTZ2 • MFR #4264). Z-mount lenses will perform better on Z-mount cameras than F-mount lenses, using the adapter.

Does the Nikon Z50 II have in-camera focus stacking?
No, the Nikon Z50 II Mirrorless Camera does not have in-camera focus stacking. There is a feature called Focus Shift Shooting for focus bracketing, which automatically takes a series of photos at different focus distances, but they must be combined in postproduction with a computer.
