Studio Technologies Model 5421 Overview

For a cost-effective, high-performance, and flexible solution for creating party-line circuits, the Model 5421 Dante Intercom Audio Engine from Studio Technologies offers a wide range of applications. While directly compatible with the Studio Technologies range of intercom belt packs, the Model 5421 can also be used in other general audio and broadcast related mixing and interfacing applications. Only a single Gigabit Ethernet connection with Power-over-Ethernet is required to access the 16-channel audio engine.

The audio engine can be configured to provide up to four virtual intercom circuits, while advanced features like auto mix, summing, and pass-thru functions make for quick and efficient setup. For added flexibility, this audio engine supports Dante and AES67 audio protocols, as well as the Dante Domain Manager. The included STcontoller application is where all the primary functions will be adjusted, such as gain, routing, and more.

The Central Hub: Audio Engine
At the core of the Model 5421 is the 16-channel audio engine, which can be configured to access up to four virtual intercom circuits. In the audio engine lies a set of inputs, processing units, routing functions, and output resources that are configurable to support various intercom and audio requirements.
Configuration and Functionality
Using the STcontroller application, you have access to control how the audio engine is segmented. This allows for efficient use of all Dante audio channels.
Group Size, Labels, and Operating Modes
All 16 channels are configured into groups, which range from a group containing all channels to four groups of four channels each. With this, five choices allow a range of configurations to be selected with the default setting being two eight-channel groups.

To keep everything organized, each group can be labeled and structured via the Dante Controller application. For even further flexibility, five operating modes including Party-Line with Audio Mix, Party-Line, Summing Bus with Auto Mix, Summing Bus, and Pass-Thru allow you to create unique intercom circuits.

Audio Quality and Compatibility
With Dante audio-over-Ethernet as the main networking technology, the Model 5421 supports a sample rate of 48 kHz and a bit depth of up to 32. There are 16 inputs and 16 outputs available to implement virtual party-line (PL) intercom circuits.

Depending on your existing setup, AES67 and Dante Domain Manager are supported using the Dante Controller application. Because of the added compatibility, ST 2110-30 protocol is also supported.
