The design increases the ergonomics while providing an integrated Arca-type plate and four 1/4"-20 threaded holes at the bottom to attach Manfrotto-type plates and tripods. It also retains full access to the camera battery and memory card ports. The plate is finished in black aluminum and the grip area sports a textured, anti-slip surface that seamlessly matches the camera body.

I have larger hands, I wanted a hand grip with an Arca Swiss compatible base plate. I have these on all my other Fuji cameras. One feature people never mention is they protect the bottom of the camera from getting all scratched up, so you can lay it on rocks or cement and not worry about damaging the camera. The Arca Swiss compatible base plate allows you to attach it directly to higher end tripods like GITZO and others for a much more secure fit, quicker release, and even attached to a tripod, you can open the battery door and replace the battery with this grip. Also, there are three tripod holes in the base of this grip to attach a quick release plate if needed, which would keep a smaller plate out of the way of the battery door. There are two black compatible versions of this SmallRig grip, the 4556, and the 4556B. On the official website, the 4556B is listed as the “upgraded version”. B&H photo had both of these and I decided to spend a few dollars more to get the “upgraded version”. You might think the “B“ designation is for black, but the silver version of this grip is model 4555B as opposed to the older version which is 4555. This is listed on the SmallRig website, but B&H only carries the upgraded black version. The fit and finish are perfect. The texture of the grip matches that of the camera and now my pinky finger doesn’t fall off the bottom of the camera when using this grip. It also includes a hot shoe cover with a picture of a sound graph of the word “Fujifilm”, as well as a nice red shutter release button that adds a touch of class to the camera and also makes shooting more pleasurable. Very happy with the whole package and with this I don’t feel I need a thumb grip that will poke me in the forehead. I do have to say I don’t know exactly what the “upgraded version“ involves, and I even wrote to SmallRig, but have not heard back from them. But I can highly recommend this grip.
