QNAP TVS-h1688X 16-Bay NAS Enclosure

Expand your network storage capacity to support demanding workflows such as video post-production and archiving with the TVS-h1688X 16-Bay NAS Enclosure from QNAP. This 16-bay NAS enclosure includes twelve 3.5" and four 2.5" SATA III drive bays. Installed drives can be configured in RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50, or 60 mode with support for triple parity and triple mirror setups for added data security. Performance can be further enhanced by installing up to two M.2 PCIe solid-state cache drives into the available slots. Combined with its 3.3 GHz Intel Xeon W-1250 six-core processor and 32GB of ECC memory, which can be expanded to 128GB, the TVS-h1688X-W1250-32G can deliver sequential read speeds of up to 1403 MB/s. With four 2.5G Ethernet and two 10G Ethernet ports, this NAS enclosure is designed to deliver the bandwidth to support virtualization, intensive file access, large backup and restoration tasks, and media transfers.

PCIe Expansion
Three PCIe 3.0 ports are available for compatible expansions such as Thunderbolt 3 adapters, high-speed network interface cards, and graphics cards. A dual-port 10G Ethernet adapter occupies the PCIe 3.0 x8 slot.
USB 3.2 Gen 2 Support
Connect compatible peripherals to the four USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A and two Type-C ports to transfer up to 10 Gb/s directly to the NAS.
Real-Time 4K Transcoding
Connect a compatible 4K, 30 Hz monitor to the HDMI port to watch media in real-time, driven by the integrated Intel UHD Graphics P630 GPU.
High Versatility
The TVS-h1688X-W1250-32G supports virtual machines and containerized apps in addition to centralized storage, backup, sharing, disaster recovery, and storage expansion.
QuTS Hero Operating System
By combining the app-based QTS operating system with the 128-bit ZFS file system, QuTS hero provides flexible storage management, comprehensive data protection, and optimized performance to handle demanding applications including high-bandwidth storage management, virtualization, and collaborative media workflows.

Seagate 12TB IronWolf 3.5" Internal NAS Drive

Designed for use in 1-8 bay NAS environments within home, SOHO, and SMB environments, the 12TB IronWolf 7200 rpm SATA III 3.5" Internal NAS HDD (CMR) from Seagate is built to withstand 24x7 operations, or 8760 hours per year. Do you have to add all the drives at once or can you add to bays as needed. (Do they have to be the same size hdds?)

All the drives do not need to be added at once for the NAS Enclosure, depending on how the RAID is configured. The enclosure has twelve 3.5" and four 2.5" sized bays for drives.

Depends on your needs, as there are options for 1TB and 2TB. With two slots, this means you can configure either 2TB (2x1TB) or 4TB (2x2TB) all together.

You can have two computers connected at the same time or you can daisy chain this unit to another. You cannot edit the same file at the same time though.
