Power, connectivity, and reliability, the Canon Speedlite EL-1 (Version 2) is an on-camera E-TTL / E-TTL II-compatible flash characterized by its flexibility to suit a variety of lighting needs. Featuring a xenon flashtube, greater exposure stability is possible along with a powerful guide number of 190.3' at ISO 100 and versatile exposure control from full 1/1 power down to 1/8192 power. Also distinct, the EL-1 utilizes the LP-EL rechargeable lithium-ion battery pack to promote shorter recycle times of around 0.9 sec, approximately 340 flashes per charge, and it contributes to improved thermal management and the flash's active cooling system.

The EL-1 fully supports EL-series RT flashes via its built-in radio trigger and receiver. It can trigger up to 15 RT-series receiver Speedlites to produce light freely even when not attached to the camera. For even more creative possibilities, the EL-1 features Second-Curtain Sync.

Is this viewfinder feature possible while using this EL-1 version 2 flash with the Canon R5 mk II BODY? [Exposure+DOF] in [Display simulation]. This would allow me to preview a resulting image before the flash and shutter are activated. Almost like a prediction of WYSIWYG.
Asked by: Paul
Yes, it is possible to use the Exposure+DOF display simulation in the Canon EOS R5 Mark II Mirrorless Camera while using the Canon Speedlite EL-1 (Version 2).

I am using the Canon R5 mk II, and I heard someone say that using the Speedlite EL-1 version 2 with this camera will allow [Exposure+DOF] in [Display simulation] before the image is actually captured. Is this true? How would that work? Or is this just a simple modelling flash feature, which is possible on almost any Canon camera body?
Asked by: Paul
[Exposure+DOF] will not work correctly when using the EL-1 II on the R5 II.

What is the battery life like in comparison to 600EX II-RT? How many batteries should I expect to need for a full day?
Asked by: Stephanie
According to Canon, the EL-1 V2 will provide approximately 340–2,380 flashes, depending on the power setting. This would be much higher than the 600EX II RT, which utilized AA type batteries. However, it is always good practice to carry an extra battery or two in case your shoot runs over. The spare battery would be the Canon LP-EL Lithium-Ion Battery Pack, BH # CALPEL. https://bit.ly/4ivX8I8
