The Ruggard Renewable Dehumidifier is a very interesting product because it can be powered to remove humidity once it's saturated. The gels in its front window show orange when the unit is dry and ready to go, and turn green (well, sort of a greenish color) when it's saturated. I decided to really test this one out with a torture test, also with the purpose of speeding up the process so you can see the color change in action. I actually placed this unit in a humid bathroom after three back-to-back showers in a row, but it still wasn’t enough to even begin to saturate it. Most places you would take your gear or store your bag, even in an unfinished basement, it wouldn't be that bad comparing to my scenarios I tested here. Next, I exposed the dehumidifier directly to a 100% humidity heavy steam from my humidifier, as close as 3 inches away from it (see pictures). Then, I let it sit on the glass surface, receiving the steam coming down on it, It took 7 hours for the unit to get humid and finally turn the gel green, indicating that it was saturated and needed to be heated up using the built-in USB-C port and a USB-A 5V charger. By the way, it also accepts USB PD, and I tested that—it performs the same. The instructions say that a small mist of vapor may come out of the unit and it may get extra warm, but I didn’t experience either of these. The unit gets warm, around 90°F. I left it plugged in for 6 hours, as the instructions suggest. After that time, the gels turned back to the dry orange color. Since this unit has a large enclosure (5.8 x 3.7 x 1.2 inches), and considering the exaggerated and intense tests I did, exposing it to 100% humidity for hours, I think it will take a long time to become saturated in real world use. I’d estimate it might take about 2 years or longer to get fully saturated. The only thing I don’t like about this unit is that it’s made of hard plastic, so it will require a dedicated pocket inside my camera bag to keep it from touching any gear and possibly scratching something. But, a great thing to have to protect my sensitive gear. And it's renewable - reusable! [I have received this product in exchange for my honest review].

What causes the power led to go from blue to red?

What causes the power led to go from blue to red? I plugged 4 of these in to dry after they arrived in Florida. Most of the time the power leds showed a blue color, but for short periods of time I noticed that one was displaying red, but when I looked again they were all showing blue. I did not see anything about led color in the information sheet. Thanks

The Ruggard Renewable Dehumidifier/Desiccant (USB-C) to further enhance user safety provides dual protection through intelligent temperature control and timed power-off, giving you greater peace of mind. During the drying process, the indicator light stays blue; if the temperature becomes too high, the light turns red and the device automatically stops, then resumes drying once the temperature returns to normal. Meanwhile, the device will automatically shut off after approximately 10 hours of continuous operation, effectively reducing safety risks from forgetting to turn it off and minimising unnecessary power consumption. To continue use, simply unplug and replug the power to restart."
