Is the Canon imagePrograf TM-240 printer suitable ...

Is the Canon imagePrograf TM-240 printer suitable for professional photo printing?
Asked by: Ty
(Before I answer I want you to know that I run a poster printing business from home and have owned a few fancy printers, as well as had many vendors print for me.) The short answer is- YES. You CAN use this for professional photo printing. Are there printers that are even better? Yes and you'll pay 3X- 4X more for those printers. This printer has 3 colors and 2 Blacks. A fancier printer has even more color channels. In my opinion- this is good enough. This my friends, is the Toyota Camry of printers. It can do pretty much anything well. - Great looking photos? Check. - Pigment ink for longevity? Check. - Print on really thick Photo paper? Check. A normal human will be impressed by what this printer produces. A printing enthusiast may see room for improvement. Now, here's Canon's Marketing in play... TM series is advertised as a Plotter printer only (for construction sites) and Canon doesn't let on to everything it can really do. Why? Because Canon sells a "Pro Photo Printer" That costs 3-4X as much. How will they ever sell that? Downsides: - TM series is truly intended to print mainly from ROLL paper. If you need to print a lot of pre-cut sheets, look elsewhere. This printer tray can only load ONE sheet at a time. That's not fun if you need to print ten 11x17 sheet papers. - This can do borderless, but ONLY on roll paper. Need borderless on single sheets? Look elsewhere. - Just buy the stand for $300, don't torture yourself. - The $999 model can only hold a 55ML cartridge. Thats really small for large printing. Canon intends to make its money off of you in inks. One set is $250. My recommendations? - If you need an occasional wide format printer- go for it. This printer works great if you have another printer for smaller, high volume prints. - If you need to print 24x36 20 times a week, spring for the TM-250, which has MUCH larger ink cartridges, you save $600 on the first refill- investment will pay for itself by the second refill. If you need something that can do roll AND single sheet printing well, buy another printer. Some research: Here's an educational video link about this "TM" series of printer showcasing photos it can produce. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h2TWXPIONbg&t=834s

The Canon imagePROGRAF TM-240 24" Large Format Printer, B&H # CAIPTM240, does not support printing on Calendered Vinyl specifically but you can print on other types of vinyl like the Canon Adhesive Matte Vinyl (White, 24" x 60' Roll), B&H # CAAMV2460 or the Canon Large Format Glossy Peel and Stick Repositionable Media (24" x 100' Roll), B&H # CA4182V911.
