It was designed to provide the easiest experience locating celestial objects in the night sky by projecting a single red-dot in the center of the field of view. The StarPointer has a rheostat to control the reticle brightness and attaches quickly to most telescopes with a dovetail connection and finger knobs.

The zero magnification is really useful for an inexpert user of a telescope, since you can easily see the star you think you are aligning too. With magnification sometimes it's hard to know if you are looking at the star you think you are. Important for alignment and rough location. There were 2 screws on my scope that let me add it as a secondary finder, which is great.
Cheaply made and sloppy to adjust. Barely does what it needs to, though will need re-calibration every time you use it. Did not simply fall apart on its own, so got 2 stars in stead of 1.
