The Meade Instruments Series 4000 9mm Plossl Wireless Illuminated Reticle Eyepiece is ideal for use with an off-axis guider to more accurately detect and correct tracking errors during long-exposure astrophotography sessions.
It is outfitted with an illuminated concentric-circle/double-crosshair reticle that presents a clearly-defined center aiming area that allows users to center a guide star of virtually any size and closely monitor its location for drift. The reticle has dual micrometric X-Y axis positioning controls to position the reticle just about anywhere in the field of view, and is illuminated by an integrated red LED that is easy to see while preserving night-adjusted vision. Unlike wired models that suffer from cord-wrap and snagging, this eyepiece is a standalone unit that runs on two included LR44 batteries to power the LED, and has a rheostat to set the appropriate brightness for the ambient light or the user's preference. This model is built with a 4-element lens and has a 9mm focal length that produces moderate-to-high magnifications on most OTAs, anti-reflection multi-coated optics to improve views, and a dioptric correction dial for precision focusing. The eyepiece also features a comfortable 16mm eye relief and a fold-down rubber eyecup for easy use with or without eyewear.
