Do you need this preamp for the Beta 98 to work. Can you run the mic without it?
This microphones can run without the in-line preamp. However to keep a consistent impedance, and consistent output, it is recommended to use either the Shure RPM626 or any other similar Preamp. Similar to the SM7B this microphone has a very low input sensitivity. Which makes it ideal for miking loud sound sources. Having a Preamp boost the output level without raising the S/N ratio is ideal, This is why Shure recommends using this microphone with an In-line preamplifier.

The preamplifier for the WL93 is the Shure 90A4360. Even though the RPM626 has some characteristics similar to the 90A4360, they are not identical and so optimal performance of your WL93 cannot be guaranteed. We recommend using the 90A4360 which is optimized for use with the WL93.
