Fujinon 16366963 overview

  • 1Description

Combining great performance and value, the Fujinon 7x50 WPC-XL Mariner Binocular is their entry-level boating binocular equipped with a compass. It has multi-coated lenses, a tough polycarbonate exterior, and a weight that is remarkably low for a 7x50 water and fogproof optic. In fact, this rubber-armored unit will actually float in water when the included strap is attached. The compass' LED illumination and activation button are on the left objective, away from the compass itself, so that electrical interference is avoided.

Fujinon's entry-level boating binocular
Rubber-armored, polycarbonate housing that's lighter than most 7x50 boating binoculars
Floats in water when used with accompanying neckstrap
Nitrogen-purged water and fogproof lenses
Multi-coated optics
56-72mm interpupillary adjustment range
Tough peel-down-type eyecups
Internal compass is illuminated by LED light
Compass' electrical supply, lighting, and activation button are on opposite objective to eliminate electrical interference

    Fujinon 16366963 reviews

7x50 WPC-XL Mariner Binocular with Compass is rated 4.1 out of 5 by 7.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Bargain These are infinite focus binoculars; that means that you generally don't focus them except to set the diopters. It also means that the minimum focal distance is about 50 feet, unless you manually change the diopter settings. This is a weakness if you're trying to use them to look at something closer than about 50 feet, but it is a strength in that you generally never need to focus them. At this price range, these are exceptional optics and can be used for a variety of purposes including astronomy as well as nautical uses and even bird watching if the birds are not within 50 feet. They do float IF the neckstrap is attached properly and are very light compared to most binoculars in this price range (because they don't have the added weight of the focusing mechanism). Bottom line: these can be a great value if they suit your needs as stated above.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Overall a good pair of binoculars The images are clear and sharp and the binoculars are value for money. Minor problems are that there is no clear instruction as to the scale and compass bearing gauge. There is no information as to what would happen when you pressed the dim light button. I figured that when nothing happened the batteries were flat. The batteries supplied were indeed flat and of a size not readily available here. After much searching the right batteries were obtained and fitted. Pressing the low light button then illuminates the readout in red. Have not used these for sailing yet, so cannot make a judgement as to fit for purpose

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Unreliable compass These binoculars were recommended due to the Fujinon name and I purchased them as a replacement to my older, less expensive and much heavier Bushnell's. I needed a pair of Binoculars with both reticle and compass. My initial purchase was defective upon receipt and returned for a faulty compass. I was swiftly sent a new replacement. Upon initial use, I found these binoculars to be very light and extremely comfortable to hold especially when used for long periods of time. The lens quality was good but not as crisp as my old binoculars. Then after 2 years, not only did the compass suddenly became uncalibrated , but button illuminating the compass stopped working. At first I thought the later was due to old batteries. However new batteries did not solve the problem and it appears that the button just stopped functioning. I have spoken to others who have purchased the same model and are having some similar complaints about the compass readings. If you are looking for reliable compass readings I could not these binoculars.
