Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works great! This thing works great! I filmed a wedding in downtown Louisville, Ky on a rooftop without one of these and got horrible wind noise, etc... Since then, I purchased one of these for both of my PD170s and I can really tell a difference because it eliminates almost all wind noise on a calm day. On a very windy day you will still 'hear' the wind because of the trees, etc. but you will not get the dreaded wind thump on your video. I must say it works great! One note: This thing is HUGE!!! It is the same size as the body of my PD170. It looks like a big racoon setting up on top of my hotshoe. :) One more thing... Even though it is big, I am still able to fit a wireless receiver on my hotshoe and not get too crowded.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Successfully Blocks Wind This softie successfully blocked 15 mph winds on the beach during a wedding shoot. I have not tested its limits but it did work well. I have also not tested the difference in sound (loss of tones) from having the cover but it should not be significant. I do NOT agree with the high price unless the fibers are made of some type of extinct wooly mammoth fur from the arctic circle. This product needs some competition to drive down the price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A priceless piece of equipment! I should have bought this when I bought the camera! If you are on a budget, skimp on something else. You need this if you shoot in the outdoors. I actually held the on camera mic outside the window of a moving truck at highway speed and got zero wind thump! None, Nada! Spend the money! Get one!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I plan to buy another one I use this with my stock on-board shotgun mic from a Sony Z7U. It cuts wind noise down quite a bit but outside in a breeze I still get a little noise. I interviewed someone driving in their car with both windows down and the audio is perfectly usable and clean. It is a little slower to install than my cheap foam wind sock and it is a bit harder to pack it in my PortaBrace bag with the softie on so in a nutshell I only put it on when I need it. I do plan to buy another larger one for my big shotgun mic.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Product! Not much to say since it seems pretty obvious. This product does exactly what it is supposed to do. I've tested it under many varying circumstances and it works pretty well. Of course, nothing eliminates all wind noise entirely (except for forgetting to turn on your mic) but this does a great job. It's pretty pricey but in this case you definitely get what you pay for and this is worth the price tag.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Rycote Softie You're probably wondering why you need this expensive microphone accessory. If you shoot outdoors you really must have one of these to limit wind noise hitting your mic. I avoided buying one for 3 years but gave in when I realized the wind noise was cheapening my videos. It looks silly but it accomplishes an important mission. Comes with a nifty comb!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Well worth it This wind cover has made a huge difference for sound on my AT875R mic. I don't catch any wind anymore like I did with the original windscreen. Only downfall is I can see it in the corner of some of my long lens shots on my Panasonic HVX. To fix that I will need to get a shock mount on top of the camera. Well worth it for better audio though!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best you can get There is no other softie that can take down wind noise better. At the beginning I thought is this really worth the investment? It's fairly pricy, but when you are in uncontrolled windy environments, this softie cancels out the wind extraordinarily well. Completely worth the investment.
