Rycote Classic Softie Reviews

This dead cat has implications

The shorty version of Rycote;s dead cat wind screens. Beautifully fluffy and rigid, it physically and environmentally protects your mic. I have a Schoeps MC MS mic I use which is a difficult fit for this screen. The problem arises when mated to Rycote's INV-6 SOFt schock mount. There simply isn't enough distance between the wind screen and the mount for the mount to perform smoothly. I suspect mics with longer bodies would work well, but the Schoeps' CMC series pose a problem

Essential product, great quality

For wind protection, it does the job well, a huge improvement over any stock foam. Rycote build quality is excellent. This product will last. The fit is great on all mics I've used, snug, and doesn't introduce it's own noise. It's far larger than a foam screen, increasing the chance of your mic being seen by the camera that it's mounted on. Take a look at your rig before purchasing. Don't expect hurricane-proof results. You'll need a blimp for any critical sound on breezy days. But this is the best realistic option for on-camera shotguns.
