Circular Polarizer - Light rays which are reflected become polarized. Polarizing filters are used to select which light rays enter your camera lens. They can remove unwanted reflections from non-metallic surfaces such as water or glass and also saturate colors providing better contrast. The effect can be seen through the viewfinder and changed by rotating the filter. The filter factor varies according to how the filter is rotated and its orientation to the sun.

NOTE: Circular polarizers are specifically designed for use with auto-focus SLR cameras (They will also work on manual systems and video cameras without problems).

This filter eliminates ultraviolet rays to remove haze from outdoor shots as well as polarizing the light to remove reflections, and increase color saturation, without affecting the overall color balance

72mm Circular Polarizer Glass Filter is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 105.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great filter for the price Most circular polarizers are so dark that they can function as neutral density filters as well as polarizers. If, however, you don't want that density, then this is the filter for you. The Hoya filter barely darkens the scene at all. In fact, I am usually not even aware that it is on the lens. But when used as a polarizer, the results are all that I want. Then there is the fact that this is an affordable filter of high quality. I bought my first Hoya a few years ago on the recommendation of my local camera shop. I've always been pleased with their quality. I now own more than a few for a range of lenses. Good quality, good price, good product.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Worked like it should until... Got the first filter and right away noticed that the metal ring that keeps the glass inside the outer ring was wavy like it was bent then fixed then installed. ... got a new one that had the same problem but not as bad and decided to keep it. Took my trip to Europe and on the last week we were there I decided to take it off and clean the filter on both sides. When I went to take it off the inside metal that holds the glass inside the outer ring popped off making the glass come out of the outer ring with some kind of oil as well. Bad product! From now on I'll pay the extra money and get the better German made brand none of those have broke on me and I've had them longer.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Effective in experienced hands One who only wishes to get rid of reflections that are not welcome will be glad to know that this filter does that and more. I am glad it has helped me enhance the beauty of a blue sky. You ought to be a bit cautious when choosing the white balance though, or it will tint your picture a little. Another way it has pleased me is by adding some f-stops to the exposure and allowing you to shoot at a slower speed to create that foggy effect in running water. I would say that it's an asset to carry one of these with you, but you must be careful not to let it stain your composition.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good product great price... Most of my filters are Hoya and I've always been pleased with the quality. The only thing I would change on this filter is the ease with which the filter turns. For those of you who haven't used a polarizer before you have to turn it until it is oriented to block reflective rays. I find myself checking and double checking before each shot to make sure it hasn't slipped from the correct position. Other than that it works great for shots through glass and for shooting around lakes and skylines. It cuts out the reflections and makes the blue sky pop.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from It does what its supposed to do I do a lot of landscape photography which often involves shooting in a great deal of haze. The polarized filter enables me to cut through the haze and obtain a sharper image with a great deal of contrast. I would not think of leaving home for a day of outdoor shooting without it. Since the extent to which I require the filter may vary with light conditions, rather than having to remove the filter entirely, I can often get by with with simply rotating it. Of course if you do night shooting remember to remove it and put it back in its case. A good product: simple and reliable.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Noticeable fog reduction The filter's polarizing effect does indeed seem to cut down on the amount of diffusion glare from fog, smog and haze as well as reflection glare from shiny surfaces such as glass and water. Albeit the reduction of glare is marginal. The polarizer filter is more useful on days with a greater amount of natural ambient light. However during dark overcast weather outdoors or underlit indoor environments it may be easier to get more light and the desired effect by swapping the Polarizer glass filter with a regular filter.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good Quality I use this filter in combination with the UV filter I keep on my lens at all times. Purchased this because I bought a new lens and my previous lenses took smaller filters. I paid WAY less for my other filters, and cringed a little when I bought this, but felt the huge difference in quality the second I held it in my hand. Not much else to say - it's a circular polarizer and it does what it's supposed to do.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from AMAZING!!! It is crazy how much of a difference this filter makes. The sky just looks amazing, it really makes everything look vivid and the colors are truly deeper. Not to mention how it takes the glare of the sun off water and glass, also does some amazing things when looking at televisions when they are on. should have gotten one sooner.
