From Manufacturer

The Rode NTK Valve 1" Condenser Microphone is a large-diaphragm condenser microphone, which employs Class-A valve circuitry resulting in a warm sonic character. Sporting a cardioid polar pattern, the NTK is designed for vocal and general instrument recording, while providing the sonic character found in higher-priced tube microphones. The capsule features a mylar dual-diaphragm, sputtered in gold to provide transparent signal reproduction and wide frequency response.

The hand-selected and graded 6922 twin-triode valve comprises the core of the NTK's circuitry, providing an analog "warmth" and presence that meets the standards of the most demanding engineers. The microphone features a custom-built, Mu-metal transformer developed by Jensen Transformers. The end result is quiet, noise-free output at high-gain levels. The NTK includes a separate power supply.

RODE NTK Reviews

Early days with NTK

I have now recorded about 4 times with this mic (male solo vocal and acoustic guitar at the same time with just the one mic. I am impressed and very pleased. Even tho the guitar is not miked it picks up beautifully. The vocals are detailed, clear and resonant. I have read that switching out the tube makes it even better and so have purchased additional tubes to this end. So far the supplied tube is so good I haven't felt the need. Eventually I will try out the other tubes and see if it makes it even better. So far... Bravo Rodes!

Worked with many mic s in the past and nothing comes close to this one. I recommend this mic to any and everyone who is serious about recording vocals.

question

I read in the Product highlights that the NTK comes with a dual diaphragm capsule, and 9 polar patterns? Is this correct? ( I believe that describes is the Rode K2, and not the NTK.) Nor does it use phantom power.
Asked by: Dan E.
I apologize for the confusion, the NTK is a cardioid patterned mic, not variable, and utilizes its own included power supply.

question

Can this be used as a stage mic as well? I would be using this to record students in my studio of voice in my living room. Is this a good option for not being in a recording studio?
Asked by: Sharon T.
Generally speaking, Large diaphragm microphones are not recommended choices for stage use. They are just too delicate for this application.

question

Your website says that the NTK comes with a 6072 tube. I thought it came with a 6922 tube?
Asked by: Dan E.
We stand corrected. According to RODE: Hand selected and graded 6922 twin-triode valve . Thanks for pointing this out.

question

Can this mic be used as a voice over mic plugged into an audio interface then into a computer?
Asked by: Matthew D.
Sure can. Remember not to supply phantom power from the interface.
