Smith-Victor DC-1 reviews

DC-1 Dimmer Variable Wattage Control is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 16.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Dimmer My friend and I make videos, and we are starting to get more professional about it. We have some cheap lights, but we couldn't dim them. We were considering just using paper to layer in front of the light to make it more dim, until I found these dimmers. I ordered two, and when I got them, I was surprised at how big and sturdy they are. They are very easy to use, the switches slide smoothly, and they allow great control of your light. The problem for me is that I'm very new to utilizing lighting, so I'm not very knowledgeable about all the equipment I can use, but if you're into making videos for fun and for a cheap price, these dimmers will certainly make life and filming easier for you.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Blew Out 2 of These Same problem as the person who left this comment: 'A 600W Dimmer, Blown With A 500W Halogen.' Burned it out doing the same thing on a 500W Halogen bulb. On the back of the unit it says 'For control of incadesant lamp only 600W.' Contacted Smith-Victor to repair it. They said that they don't repair them but they could send me a new one as long as I had proof of purchase. Sent them the proof and never heard back from them. When it worked it was great but it did burn out too easily.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from A 600W Dimmer, Blown With A 500W Halogen Plugged in a 500 watt halogen and dimmed down but it never dimmed back up; no noise, no wisp of smoke. The light just stayed on full bright with no power light on the dimmer. Suspect the triac has shorted; dimmer body feels empty. not substantial enough to handle anywhere near the rated power.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Handy and works Simple product that is handy to have. Be careful to use it only as directed, though, as it should be used only with resistive loads like incandescent bulbs.
