For larger cinema cameras, if you need a 501 plate, get the 501PLONG. It's just safer and more sturdy all around for cinema cameras. Well-worth the extra money.

Different sizes for different tripod heads, the 501 is based on the orriginal manfrotto 501 tripod plate sizes and the 504 is based on the 504 tripod heads

Yes, this will fit and the head's camera plate system features a side lock mechanism that allows for quicker and safer mounting of your camera plate and camera load. Instead of having to align and slide in your camera plate from the rear, you're able to conveniently tuck in one side of the plate from the top and then push and click in the other side.

If you are referring to the older 501HDV model then yes, this plate will fit in that head.
