Audix SCX1/HC overview

  • 1Description

The SCX1-HC Studio Condenser Microphone from Audix offers a versatile condenser microphone system that can be used for vocal, general instrument, and ambiance capturing applications. It features a modular capsule design, allowing you to switch the included hypercardioid capsule with separately sold cardioid and omnidirectional capsules. When used near monitors and speakers, the hyper-cardioid polar pattern provides maximum signal rejection at the off-axis sections of the microphone head, providing a low noise floor and high gain-before-feedback response. Transformerless circuitry and surface mount technology provide a compact profile and quiet signal response with a low noise floor. The microphone's high sensitivity and wide frequency response are suitable for use with vocals, guitar, strings, drums, percussion, overhead cymbals, and similar sounds. A high SPL rating of 130 dB enables the capsule to accurately pick up transient (peaking) signal without noise caused by distortion overload. The package includes an external foam windscreen for reducing wind, sibilance, and pop noise, a nylon molded snap-on clip, and a foam lined wooden case.

    Audix SCX1/HC reviews

SCX1-HC Studio Condenser Microphone (Hypercardioid Polar Pattern) is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 25.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Don't know how I lived without this mic. I'm a full-time video producer who shoots a lot of interviews. If you shoot indoor interviews you need this mic. Period. I used to try and get away with using a shotgun mic (Rode NTG-2), but all too often the audio was way too echoey. This mic has the same output level as my NTG-2, but it delivers pure, clean dialog. No room echo. Huge difference. I should have invested in this mic a long time ago. It's also really small and light so it's easy mount on the end of a boom stand and not worry about it falling over. I also like the reduced proximity effect. Bass response sounds natural at close distances.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Voice Mic This is a GREAT little Mic. For years I've used Schoeps CMC641 mics for both interior and exterior voice recording for commercial film and video work. Voices are bright and accurate with very excellent noise rejection from the Audix. It acts very much like the Schoeps re: sensitivity and placement, but seems less prone to handling noise. Also, my Schoeps would fail with the slightest hint of humiditywhile the Audix keeps on going. I honestly can recommend this mic as an incredible value when you consider how good it sounds. By the way, the two mics cut together nicely if you're interested.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing Dialog Mic Coming from using a Rode NTG2 as a dialog mic for short films, the Audix SCX1/HC is an amazing upgrade. Compared to the NTG2, it's night and day. This mic captures clear, almost noise-free dialog. Really all I can say is Wow! It is the real deal for professional quality voice recording. I can't imagine that I'd ever need to replace this with anything else. This is the first piece of video or audio hardware that's ever truly exceeded my high expectations!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing for interior dialogue After looking for a good dialogue mic on a budget I settled for the SCX-1. The mic delivers clear and rich dialogue and is especially good at picking up whispers and those quieter sounds that are essential to tight shots. The small profile of the mic makes it easy to squeeze into tight interior spaces which I've found especially handy. On top of all this it looks sleek and comes in a nice wooden carry case. Great value for money and wouldn't hesitate to use it on a full feature film.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Bang for your buck! I bought this after purchasing a Schoeps Colette Series Supercardioid Microphone Set and feeling underwhelmed for the sound to cost ratio. But the SCX1 really sounds fantastic for the price, as good as the Schoeps in my estimation for recording interviews.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wow, great mic for interior dialogue. Got this mic to be a workhorse hypercardioid for interior dialogue. Very impressed with the clearity, low noise, and directionality. Honestly I anticipated a good mic but this exceeds expectations. This mic has top tier performance.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Excellent for price but RF sensitive Love the sound, weight, warm tones and just about everything others have written so far while using this mic for interviews and commercials. But, I've experienced one disconcerting thing... every so often I get a very noticeable hum in locations that I don't get that same noise with other mics. The hum is direction and placement sensitive. By turning the mic towards another direction or placing it in another spot, I can adjust the hum. On one location I couldn't adjust it enough to get rid of the noise, so I had to switch to my shotgun mic (using the same XLR cable). That got rid of the noise. I'm sure it's a RF sensitivity issue. If it wasn't for that, I would easily give this mic 5 stars. That said, I just used it on a 2 day shoot and it performed flawlessly.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I love it I've used this mic for about 5 years now and it's been amazing. I bought it as a cheaper alternative to the Schoeps CMC641 which I used in school. It is my go-to mic for interviews and indoor dialogue. I've never had any problems with it.
