Wein Safe-Sync Overview

The Wein Monoplug Safe-Sync regulates flash sync voltage to a safe 6 volts and protects the camera's circuitry.

Over time, excessive flash synchronization voltage can lead to damage and costly repairs, the Safe-Sync offers a simple and effective way to protect your camera. No matter how high the original voltage, Safe-Sync reduces it to a safe 6 volts.

Wein Safe-Sync Reviews

it works for Speedo's

I have old Speedo packs, 2405 and 800 and trigger with Pocket Wizards. I either get intermittent triggering or none at all. This product rectifies that problem. I also sometimes use with my PCB monolights but it isn't as big a problem with those lights. So, bottom line is, it works, I'm happy and it's worth the $.

This enabled me to use my Bowens 800B monolight from the early 80s with my new Profoto B1 Air.

question

What is the difference between this product and the Vello HSA-PVU Hot Shoe Adapter with Safe Voltage Conversion ? I know one plugs into the power pack and the other into the camera. Is the voltage protection the same?
Asked by: Nick
While the voltage protection is virtually the same, the Vello HSA-PVU would require CR2032 lithium battery to power it while the Wein SSH Safe Sync is powered pack or flash head it is connected to.

question

I have an older Vivitar 283 that I would like to use off-camera with a Canon EOS 20D. In researching the sync voltage it appears that the 283 voltage can be as high as 600 volts. Wein's product description says that this product can be used with older flash units that have sync voltage up to 400 volts , yet B&H's description says no matter how high . So... Which is correct? Is this going to protect my camera while using it with the 283? Yeah, my 20D is outdated, but it's my baby and I don't want to risk burning it up. Thanks!
Asked by: Anonymous
The safe sync is only rated for 400v. 600v sounds too high for the Vivitar 283, in searching the internet I found a correspondance from someone with the same concern to Vivitar and their response was We apologize for any inconvenience. The trigger voltage if it's made in China is 10V made in Japan 350V made in Korea 350V. You can check by where the hot shoe is where it's made . If the voltage is in fact higher than 400v you may be better off using a combination of a safe sync and a wireless radio slave system to eliminate any direct connection to the camera.

question

is this a 1/4 female to male?
Asked by: Anonymous
I bought two use Norman Power Pac light controls. I was told my Norman that the output of the 1/4 plug has a high voltage output. Most devices use a low power input and since I was buying a wireless control slave reciever the monplug steps down the voltage to a safer output.

question

what cable would I need to connect this to a Pocket Wizard plus?
Asked by: Charles B.
Sorry, I don't use a wireless sync. I use a PC to AC sync cable.
