question

I have an older Vivitar 283 that I would like to use off-camera with a Canon EOS 20D. In researching the sync voltage it appears that the 283 voltage can be as high as 600 volts. Wein's product description says that this product can be used with older flash units that have sync voltage up to 400 volts , yet B&H's description says no matter how high . So... Which is correct? Is this going to protect my camera while using it with the 283? Yeah, my 20D is outdated, but it's my baby and I don't want to risk burning it up. Thanks!

The safe sync is only rated for 400v. 600v sounds too high for the Vivitar 283, in searching the internet I found a correspondance from someone with the same concern to Vivitar and their response was We apologize for any inconvenience. The trigger voltage if it's made in China is 10V made in Japan 350V made in Korea 350V. You can check by where the hot shoe is where it's made . If the voltage is in fact higher than 400v you may be better off using a combination of a safe sync and a wireless radio slave system to eliminate any direct connection to the camera.

question

is this a 1/4 female to male?
Asked by: Anonymous
I bought two use Norman Power Pac light controls. I was told my Norman that the output of the 1/4 plug has a high voltage output. Most devices use a low power input and since I was buying a wireless control slave reciever the monplug steps down the voltage to a safer output.
