Lightweight, portable lens case
The case's parachute cloth exterior and water-resistant fastener offer protection in rain and other inclement weather
Side pockets added for greater utility
New plastic base at bottom of lens provides stability and waterproofing
Film, other items can be stored in two mesh outer side compartments
Belts on the back of the top cover can be adjusted to reduce the case length for more compact storage of lenses without camera bodies attached

Nikon CL-L2 reviews

CL-L2 Soft Case is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 28.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from BEYOND EXPECTATION Design well considered. Construction excellent. Workmanship excellent Materials excellent Abundant added padding to custom pack equipment. I was most pleased to find that by configuring the padding there is sufficient room to include my 500mm lens and my Nikon D3 in the space where the lens tapers, as well as a tele-converter. This is important as it enables one to hike into complex terrain with a compact pack in the knowledge that my gear is well protected. One potential drawback is that there is only one shoulder strap. I will only know in time as I have yet to use the bag for this purpose. ... I have had numerous dealings with B&H and recommend them highly.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good for short trips This is a good case for short trips close to home when the Nikon trunk case (supplied with the lens) is too much. It obviously doesn't provide the level of protection of the trunk, however it does allow you to be more flexible with your transportation. I wish it was a backpack like the Nikon 600 II backpack that was available a few years ago (it allowed you to keep the body attached to the lens) as the shoulder strap can be a bit uncomfortable after a good walk or climb. I do think it is one of the best options currently available.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Way too small! Purchased this case for carrying a 500mm f/4 on trips where the overhead bin space is limited and thus didn't want a bigger back pack. However even with the lens hood inverted there was essentially zero space to include any of the different padding supplied with the bag around the front of the lens. As noted by others, no info is even supplied by Nikon as to potential uses of all the paddings that are included with the case. I am still awaiting the Lenscoat lens cover I ordered for this lens which should even further reduce any space for the padding. Thus a Lenscoat Travel Coat may serve the same purpose for much less cost.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellent for transport I have used the case with the 200-400mm lens and it is excellent for that purpose. Great protection with the internal padding and special collar with Velcro straps. It is long enough to be able to leave a teleconverter on the lens. The plastic base is tough and works well for setting the case down on dirt or sand. The single strap limits my use to short walks from the car to where I will setup the tripod. For longer treks I prefer the Think Tank Glass Limo bag. The Limo also provides room for a flash and other items. I only wish the case was included with the 500mm f4 lens the way it is with the 200-400mm lens. A hard case for a lens is overkill most of the time and shouts out steal me to any potential theives. The black nylon case is a lot less conspicuous. The nylon case also breathes so less worries about fungus as can occur with a solid case or a wose yet, a leather one.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from best for caring a single long lens I use this to carry either a 200-400 or the 500. Light and quick, sling it across your shoulder, and go. It is included with the 200-400, and will carry the 500 or 600, although not with a camera attached. The 200-400 with a D300 fits. The bottom pad may need to be removed for the 600 if you you keep the hood reversed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I love it I'm a Canon CPS Platinum user and i love this Nikon bag. To me the best lens bag out there. I use it with my 400/2.8 (the bag holds it with a camera) and 600/4.0 (without a camera).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect Choice Great product for field use, when the more protective trunk case is just too much to take along. Use requires willingness to be a lot more careful with precious content.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good Bag. Convenient. This WILL fit a 600 f/4 with the hoods reversed, although you'll probably want to slip a little (thin) foam padding into the ends, which seem poorly protected. Good for carrying to a shoot. Doubt it would be comfortable for hiking, or long walks. Would not recommend for checked travel luggage or shipping under any circumstances.
