Auralex RC-8 Overview

Auralex's RC8 Resilient Channel is a specially formed, sturdy metal device that, when used to hang drywall (instead of just attaching the drywall to the studs or joists,) greatly improves the prevention of sound transmission through the wall or ceiling system.

RC8 Resilient Channel should be installed horizontally at the bottom and top of the wall, then every two feet or less in between. Up to two layers of 5/8" drywall and a layer of SheetBlok may be hung on the metal strips, including on a ceiling.

Specially bent, sturdy metal device used to hang drywall, instead of attaching the drywall directly to the studs or joists

Great and easy to install!

I didn't really know what to expect, but the product was great and very easy to install. I recommend looking up the installation videos from the manufacturer on YouTube. I used the recommended 2 5/8 sheets of dry wall with green glue between, and it was very easy to attach. The rails were also easy to cut to size using a normal pair of metal cutters. The room sounds amazing. Hard to really quantify how well they work on their own, since I did new insulation and the green glue, but with the combination of all of that, my garage sounds incredible.

Not what I thought and kind of expensive

I read online that resilient channel is great for sound proofing. There are other resilient channel out there that is a lot cheaper, but I wanted the best so I brought these which is quite expensive compare to other brands. It was very easy to install and we had it up and done within hours. We use these alone with Roxol safe and sound. But it didn't help much with sound proofing. I think the Roxol works better than this resilient channel. Overall, I'm not too happy about this product and would not use it again. The only pros is that it was easy to install.

Good product
