Tivoli Model One overview

  • 1Description

If you're looking for performance and simplicity but have little space then the beige / walnut Tivoli Model One AM/FM Table Radio will suit you just fine. Behind this sleek exterior is quality in sound. A furniture-grade, handmade wood cabinet works as an acoustically inert housing unit. The heavy-magnet, long-throw 3" (7.6 cm) driver works hand in hand with a multistage frequency contouring circuit that adjusts the output over half-octave increments.

Model One has also borrowed liberally from anther technology to create this item. Using cell phone technology, a GaAs MES-FET mixer is used for FM tuning to increase clarity and enhance reception. The geared-down 5:1 tuning ratio adds to the ease and accuracy of channel tuning while the amber tuning light keeps track of your channel selection.

Dual Purpose Cabinet
The furniture-grade, handmade wood cabinet is stunning in appearance but also performs double duty working as an acoustically inert housing unit
3-Inch Driver
The heavy-magnet, long-throw, 3" (7.6 cm) driver is allied with a multistage frequency contouring circuit that adjust to the speaker's output over half-octave increments giving you an accurate tonal balance and bass response
State of the Art Tuner
Rather than being satisfied with an integrated circuit Henry Kloss has incorporated state of the art technology into his Model One with the addition of the GaAs MES-FET mixer for better reception and increased clarity
5:1 Tuning Ratio
The geared-down 5:1 tuning ratio permits easy and accurate tuning and the addition of an amber tuning indicator makes finding your favorite channel even easier
Henry Kloss Analog AM/FM Tuner
Built-in AM and FM antennas give you superb reception but if you happen to be in a reception-poor area then the 75-ohm jack lets you attach and external FM antenna for even better reception
Simplicity
With just three knobs adorning the face of this unit, it is a sleek-looking component that anyone can easily understand and use
Privacy
For those moments when you want a little privacy or quiet time, connect your headphones to the headphone jack and escape from life's daily distractions, or better yet, let the kids enjoy their favorite channel while you get some peace and quiet

    Tivoli Model One reviews

Model One AM/FM Table Radio (Beige / Walnut) is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 32.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect solution for dad. Pro: Beautiful simplicity; great sound. Con: Mono only (but don't really miss it); price. I purchased this for my elderly father because a stroke diminished his ability to manage all the buttons on today's radios. The Model One solved everything... easy to use, (relatively) easy to read the dial, and sounds fantastic. Voice is particularly clear. Stereo would be nice, but Dad doesn't miss it. It's expensive, but build quality is terrific and used ones are selling for almost the price of a new one. Why not get the free (and very fast) shipping and buy a brand new one from B&H? Easy decision for me, and dad loves it!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Sound from a Simple Table Radio We keep this small radio in our kitchen. It can pick up stations that our other radio cannot. The sound has great bass and is rich and full. It is hard to believe that we are listening to mono, because it sounds as good as stereo. The attractive walnut cabinet is made of sturdy wood and the tuner is analog. It has extra fine tuning and when you get right on a station, an light turns from dull to bright amber. The external FM antenna that comes with it is simple to hook up and effective. It is a state of the art, high technology radio with simple dials. It is made in the U.S.A. and I highly recommend it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Couldn't be Simpler I started out thinking I wanted a Bose Wave Radio. While checking out the online reviews for the Bose, another name kept popping up. Reviewers frequently recommended the Tivoli Model One instead. The more I read about the Model One, the more I was convinced I had found what I was looking for. I wanted a small audio player for my office. It needed to have an auxiliary input for my laptop. Impressions: It's smaller than I expected, which isn't a bad thing. It fits nicely on my desk. I'm also pleased with the retro styling. I don't think I will get tired of the look. The unit feels solid and well made. The sound is great. Overall, it's a simple solution that does exactly what I want. Perhaps a bit pricey for mono sound.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poor Tuner The Tivoli Model One's tuner is problematic. Mine developed a static noise issue so I contacted Tivoli. This is a common fault, along with tuner drift, that the company tries to rectify by offering a discount on repairs. Many customers now have expensive Tivoli paper weights. Do not buy this radio.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from pint-size radio with booming sound I am slowly getting used to the sounds. Initially it sounded very boosted, like your kid sister had been playing around with the equalizer. This isn't bad all that bad as it makes talk-radio sound pretty good. The built-in antenna is useless and the supplied external antenna works, but is very finicky about placement. I had expected better reception given the other reviews. The best part is the small footprint.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Think twice about buying it Received it 5 days ago. Looks pretty and well constructed-solid, impressed until playing it. Almost no reception with built in AM antenna, very little difference with external vs internal FM antenna. I live in Seattle area and reception is no problem. On male voices, it sounds muddy and too resonant. No tone controls to adjust this. Music disguises it. Hard to eliminate background hiss even with careful tuning. Severly overpriced and working on previous reputation.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Radio I bought this radio for my mother for Christmas. She wanted a radio for her kitchen that was easy to use. This fit the bill. Furthermore the sound is very good and there is no static sound when turning from one station to the other.
