The base and the top mount are both 1/4 20 threads. It would have to be attached to a light stand with a 1/4 20 thread.

I want to attach this unit to a Giotto QU305 mini tripod. Do I need an adapter to attach? It seems both units are 1/4 . Or, am I wrong?. Please advise
You can attach the CB-18E Centerball Head to the Giotto QU305 mini tripod: they have the same thread size.

Yes, I have used it with Nikon D4 and 24-70mm f2.8 lens, 70-200mm f4 and holds very good.
