Nikon says this is the pouch for their 200-500. Yaakov at B&H says the case interior measures 6-1/2 (wide enough) by 10-1/4, but the lens is 12" long. So now I'm confused...

No, the Nikon CL-L2 Soft Case is not designed for that. As an alternative, the Ruggard Alpine 600 Lens Backpack for DSLR and 600/800mm Lens (B&H # RULBB1600B) will fit the Nikon Z8 and Nikon Z 180-600 lens.
