Rolls MX122 Overview

The Rolls MX122 MiniMix Pro is a compact and reliable five-channel audio mixer. It's suitable for musicians who need to mix stereo keyboards, sound modules, and other line-level sources with a single microphone.

Channel 1 is a dedicated microphone input with a 3-pin XLR connector and a mic trim pot. Channels 2 through 5 feature 1/4" inputs divided into stereo pairs, though they can also accept mono signals.

Two 1/4" outputs are provided on the rear panel for stereo connections, but you can also monitor with headphones using the front panel jacks. For this purpose, a 1/4" and a 3.5mm output are supplied. Master output knobs are supplied for overall level and phone/aux level. With this mixer, you can combine a microphone signal with four stereo or mono signals, with level and pan controls over each channel. A power supply is included.

Microphone Input
Channel 1 features a XLR microphone input with 12VDC phantom power, selectable via the phantom power jumper on the rear of the unit.
Stereo Line Inputs
Channels 2 through 5 utilize stereo 1/4" phone inputs, and the right input is used for mono signals.
Flexible Outputs
The main outputs are featured on stereo 1/4" phone connections. Dual headphone outputs feature 1/4" phone and 3.5mm stereo connections for monitoring. The secondary headphone output may be used as an auxiliary stereo output with level control.
Level and Pan Controls
All input channels feature level and pan controls (stereo controls for 1/4" input sections).

Some quirks but gets the job done

Ordered this in lieu of a stereo receiver since I use powered speakers. Was on the hunt for a stereo line level mixer with both Main Outs and a Headphone amp, with independent volume controls. Weren't many options out there. I am sending 4 unbalanced stereo signals via RCA-to-dualTS cables. This thing has a lot of gain and I learned very quickly to set the levels at a minimum if I didn't want them to distort. Most of them are at 10%, and Main output set at 50%. It would have been nice if the manual indicated where Unity is, but alas. I initially had the inputs higher and noticed a LOT of noise and hum. When I wasn't sending any audio, changing the levels caused audible shifts in the noise. Once I pulled everything down to about 10% it was fine. I checked out reviews on other websites and found similar complaints - some folks discovered the culprit was the cheap power supply it comes with. Noise seems more present in the headphone amp more than the main outs. Another quirk is that the pan pots don't ship centered and there isn't a notch to guide where Center is. You just have to eye it and approximate. Another is that there is no power switch, you're either plugged in or not. Mono inputting into the right channels is unusual but not problematic. Haven't had a reason to test the mic pre-amp, so no comments there. At the end of the day, once you know and adjust for the quirks, it gets the job done perfectly fine. A nice small footprint design for a desktop mixer.

Great Mini Audio Mixer

We were using this as a secondary mixer for feeding audio to OBS. We have since switched to using a mixer with a USB feed to OBS. While were using this it was great. Hook up is simple and audio quality was excellent. Having the earphone jacks for monitoring at this point was also very helpful. Works great for both stereo and mono applications.
