Celestron 80 overview

  • 1Description

The angled-viewing Ultima 80 3.1"/80mm Spotting Scope Kit from Celestron features a prismatic spotting scope with an 80mm objective.

All models in the Ultima line are mated to an eyepiece and render views that are both right side up and laterally correct to the world, making them good for both terrestrial and celestial observing. All Ultimas are waterproof, making them more robust than ever before. Celestron surely is delivering exceptional value.

The Ultima line offers the choice between 45° angled viewing or straight viewing. Most users will prefer angled scopes because they are both simple to use for birds perched high above the viewer, as well as easily shared among users of differing heights. But some will prefer the straight-through viewing models, for these are much easier to use when hunting down the object of interest in the first place. Straight-viewing models are also usually a bit lighter, brighter, and less expensive. The choice is yours.

Certain Celestron products include their "No Fault" warranty coverage, which assures that your spotting scope will be repaired or replaced at Celestron's option for as long as you own it, no questions asked!  The only requirement on the user's end is to ship the spotting scope (at the user's cost) to Celestron, with proof of purchase and a check or money order for $25 to cover the costs of inspection, shipping, and handling.  This warranty service is valid only for USA and Canadian citizens purchasing from an authorized Celestron dealer.

Built-In T-Mount Threading for SLR Shooting
The angled-viewing Celestron Ultima series feature a T-mount threading upon the eyepiece barrel, allowing your scope to act as an ultratelephoto lens for your SLR camera (digital or film) with just the addition of a camera-specific T-mount adapter.
Peep sight for quick initial location of your subject

    Celestron 80 reviews

Ultima 80 3.1"/80mm Spotting Scope Kit (Angled Viewing) is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 68.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works perfectly This is an update from earlier. I bought this scope to replace a Simmons 20-60x60, and can't believe how much better this one is. I used it extensively in June in Yellowstone National Park for viewing wolves and grizzly bears, some at over 2 miles away. The sharpness was fantastic and had very good low light performance. Even at full magnification, the image was more than acceptable. While in YNP, I compared my scope to some of the much more expensive models, and honestly couldn't see a big difference. Eye relief was very good and did not bother my contact lenses, unlike my Simmons. Highly recommended.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Celestron shows its quality I purchased the Ultima 80 3.1/80 as a gift for a friend who shares my passion for black-powder shooting. I unpacked to check the condition and was struck immediately by its size and robust construction. Then I checked the optics-brilliant! No obvious spherical or chromatic aberration. The huge primary lens has an excellent light gathering capacity. At high magnification the image remains clean and crisp.the view piece, which is received separately,is of good quality and has an optimal viewing angle for my purposes. Though there is an expected drop on light intensity at high magnification, targets at 300 yards remain easy to read. There is only one problem- that is I want one too and have spent my allowance for the month!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great value for target shooting I bought the Celestron Ultima 80 for shooting out to 200 yards with a .223. I wanted to see the holes easily. I did a lot of research before picking this model. It came down to this or a Kronus of similar specifications. Against white paper background and with Shoot-N-C type targets it's easy to do with the Ultima 80. Against black backgrounds it is a little tougher. .30-cal holes show up much better. Still, for the price this is an exellent spotting scope. I find it to be well made. I would recommend a sturdy tripod though as it is front heavy but it is well made and is pretty much what I need for that application and the picture is very clear.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from As can be expected My celestron ultima 80 is used for high power shooting events, specifically across the course matches with positions as 200,300,and 600yds. The overall build quality of the unit is much better than those costing the same or even more. It's sturdy, well put together and carries a great mfg warranty. The optics are ok. I have used much more expensive optics, and sorry this scope does NOT compare.... Not even close ( sorry to all those that say it does). But, for an entry level price it is VERY acceptable and superior to many even at twice the price. .22 cal holes are visible at 200 yds ( provided you have a stable tripod) and scoring disks are easily seen at 600yds without zoom extensively. Mirage IS seen, but is not as easily read as with bight quality optics. For the price of $ it is an excellent entry level scope that will serve a shooter well until the decision or the cash is available to upgrade. As a bonus, when upgrading you will get most of your money back out of the scope by selling online auction site

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good bang for the Buck This scope replaces a cheap Bushnell scope so not a fair comparison. I use this for wildlife and bird watching. Clear optics and smooth focus. I'm really happy with the 80mm lenses as it helps when the light is marginal. Even at dusk and using the maximum magnification the detail is adequate to easily count points on a buck 800 yards away. I could watch a bluebird at 100 yards pick bugs off the branch it was sitting on. This one's a keeper.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very Impressive for the Money I bought this scope primarily for target shooting. It replaces an old 60mm B&L Discoverer. It is a much better scope. Eye relief is much improved over the old one, and image brightness is much better. I can easily see .30 and .22 cal holes at 200 yards. I can read fine details on electrical transformers on telephone poles 150 yards away, and see the peeling paint on my neighbor's house with incredible detail. I think that the eyepiece case and zippered case are well-designed. Construction, fit and finish are impressive for the price. (For my purposes however, the tripod is useless). As long as you are not expecting a Zeiss or a Swarovski, you will be happy with this scope. For the money it's a very good deal.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I would buy this product again Watching maritime trafic on the Saint Laurence River. Clear picture from 20x to 40x, ar 60x small dark spot in the center.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A great purchase This spotting scope is extremely bright, clear, the definition is awesome, and it's easy to focus! It out performed other brands of scopes at higher, to much higher price points! I could easily see 22 cal. bullet holes at 200 yards and 30 cal. holes at 300 yards in the black areas of a target, and it was an overcast day! I am confident that I could see 30 cal. holes at 400 yards and more, if I find a rifle range that offers that and longer distances.
