    Celestron PowerTank 17 Reviews

PowerTank 17 17-Amp 12 VDC Power Supply is rated 4.1 out of 5 by 15.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Recently redesigned Use this to power my Celestron CPC 9.25 telescope. Works for DAYS!!! Unfortunately, Celestron recently redesigned this product - used to have jumper cables built in. Don't know (and can't find out!) why, but I wanted it for other emergency use. BRIGHT white light!! I mean REALLY bright!! You could land a jet with this light. Detachable red light will blink or be solid on - and it has a magnetic base - cool. Redesign replaced older style accessory charger ports with two USB ports - that's handy. As for the jumper cables - I'll add my own! This thing is pretty heavy!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good Product Bought this to replace one we had for about 10 years. The battery finally wouldn't take a charge. Virtually had to destroy the unit to get the battery out, so bought a new one.. Good portable 12 volt power source for telescopes, other electronic gear that requires 12 volts and not too much current for long periods. We also use it to power a clay target launcher for skeet/trap shooting practice. Only surprise was that it doesn't have the battery cables that the older unit had. There are posts instead. Not a big problem however because the posts are used to connect cable clamps as needed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It works great Bought this to power my xx14g. Been out twice now without needing to recharge. Also comes with good features like radio, alarm, and spotlight which I need when the animals get close.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good but some display issues. Theoretically a good product. However, some major issues around indicator lights. When arrived, supposed to fully charge for 20 hours. But after 15 minutes, lamp said fully charged. But output voltage low and Needs charge lamp came on. I nearly returned it, but decided to charge it with an external smart charger. It apparently took the charge. I put a load on it for a few hours and all seems normal. Get the lamps working properly and this could be five stars.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Weights in at just under 17 pounds. As specified, remember to recharge every 90 days or so.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good but watch out When the power tank arrived, it was unable to receive a charge. After following the trouble shooting guide, I contacted Celestron technical support as I could not figure out what I might be doing wrong. Celestron technical support asked a couple questions, then requested my receipt. In the end they decided to replace the unit. From the sounds of thing, this is a common occurrence when items are allowed to sit for an extended period of time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I would definitely buy this again. I simply love this. It sits right under the tripod, so no tangle or tripping on the power cord. The flashlight will be used for tear down, and believe me, it is extremely bright, great for checking out those strange sounds that seem too close also. I love the radio, I can tune into Coast to Coast and listen while viewing, or play some annoying music for the neighbors that leave their outside lights on. no I wouldn't do that ;)

    question

What is the weight of the battery?
    Asked by: HL M.
I already answered that it's about 16 lb. What is shown as the BEST ANSWER is 6-7 lb. This is not correct, it's about 16 lb. as I said. It's heavy for its size, as it is essentially a car battery with other features. Also, the image shown is not quite correct. it shows three female connectors together near the top left. Those used to be 3, 6, and 9 volt outputs on an older version. They have been replaced by two USB connectors. The description is correct, but not the image.

    question

How many charge/discharge cycles is this rated for, and is the battery replaceable?
    Asked by: Philip S.
Not sure of the number of charge/ discharge cycles. However the battery is not intended to be replaced.Although, If you are tech savvy, it can been done if you are able to locate an appropriate AH battery.

    question

I'm not interested in having an AM/FM radio, a siren, flashlights, etc. All in want is something that will power my telescope all night...Are there any similar products that don't have all the extra features? I would prefer something much smaller but with the same capacity. Thank you so much for any advice.
    Asked by: RUSS S.
I can suggest you pose your question on some of the astronomy forums or go to star parities to see what others use. I have this product and has done a very good job for me.

    question

If I'm getting an advanced vx 6 scmidt-cass will this be enough to power it for at least a couple hours and do I need to buy any other power adapters?
    Asked by: Aleksandra K.
I use this on a CGE Pro and have never drained the battery. I'm not sure about your question on the power adapters, generally your mount will come with one that has the cigarette plug, which connects to the power tank.
