Logan Electric 1055 reviews

12 x 16" E-Z View Slide Sorter is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 68.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Cheap and Adequate I owned a similar slide sorter before that was much better constructed. However, there doesn't seem to be much choices today. The E-Z View Slide Sorter came apart as soon as I put it together. It's okay now that I reinforced it with duct tape. MY old slide sorter came with a 5000 degree Kelvin fluorescent light bulb or natural daylight. I will have to search for something similar since this did not come with a bulb. Another big problem is that the shelves off the slides are too narrow and slides keep falling off with the slightest jostle. However, the price is right and I have been using it to sort thousands of slides and, bottom line, it works and useful to me.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Logan still makes the best Slide Sorter This product replaces the Logan product I bought in 1967 and used for 38 years until Hurricane Katrina destroyed it in 2005. I was happy with that product, but my new one is superior because it: 1)Sets up in 1 or 2 minutes; 2)Includes 2 elastic straps to join the view panel and frame securely; 3)Includes power cord, off-on switch and quality light bulb socket that nests firmly through a rear frame mount; 4)Disassembles fast for compact storage; and 5)The price is right. A minor quibble: It holds 40 slides on 5 shelves a bit tightly, so I prefer to view 35 at a time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works Great It's an old fashioned technology, but still the best for sorting old slides which I plan to scan.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Helpful Slide Sorter You can place four rows of ten slides each, so it's good to be able to see that many at one time. This product does leave room for improvement. 1) slides fall off easily because there is no lip to keep them in place; 2) the light shines brightest near the light bulb, so slides are not lit equally; 3) there appears to be room for one more row at the bottom, but can't be used, so seems like wasted space instead of a fifth row; 4) the two stretch bands, one on either side to hold the light tray in place, do not stay put... a better method of attaching the light tray to the stand would be most helpful.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Simple but great device I did not know such a thing existed before coming across it during an internet search. I have hundreds of old slides and wanted to get the best ones scanned.. but had put off the task for years because of the difficulty of sorting them. This box made it easy since you can look at 40 slides at a time. the lightbox is foldable for storage, and I did have some trouble getting the sides of the box to stay fully upright as the connection with the back wasn't strong enough to hold them in place. I solved that by stringing some picture wire from one side to the other, using holes already in the metal, and pulling it taut. Easy enough to do, and to reproduce if and when I need the slide sorter again.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Helpful for viewing groups of slides I purchased this sorter to review hundreds of family slides that I want to have digitized and archived. This was helpful in identifying basics in the slides that didn't require magnification. Easy to set up. The plastic sorting tray is a little flimsy, but works if you get it positioned correctly.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A great time-saver This product does what it says it does. No frills, just a good basic slide sorter....the 40 slide capacity is the largest I've found. I've started a project to transfer my slides to digital. There are 31, 140-slide Kodak carousels that I need to review. I know all the slides are not keepers. It seems that when I was doing slide photography, I could never throw anything away so they always were put in the carousel....not doing that anymore.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Invaluable Tool Not only is this simple and inexpensive device excellent for intended purpose of sorting slides, I am also using it as a light box for copying family slides using a camera on tripod with macro lens in a partially darkened room. Too bad my father's Logan, 50 years old, and still working, is marred by yellowing of diffuser plastic. The new one will certainly out live me. For slide copying have a bright white 23 W screw base fluorescent in the Logan and copy from the brightest area, in center, nearest bulb.
