Electric light socket too big for hole in metal frame!

The metal construction is good and sturdy, and folds up nicely, and the price seemed good. However the plastic light fixture crumbled when I tried to force it into the hole provided in the steel back panel. I was able to glue it, and used a grinder tool on a power drill to increase the size of the hole slightly, thus avoiding an annoying repackaging, return, and search for an alternate slide viewer. Also, the plastic tray that the slides rest on for viewing fits the steel frame poorly, and is of light weight and flimsy construction. Whatever. It will work adequately. But you get what you pay for....

I am very happy to be able to look at my slides and discard the ones we don't want to keep. It was a book help. The sorter is amazing.

Did the job...but quality of construction was poor ..had to tape sides to back and screen to sides to create en ok ugh stability to use and the bulb plug hung in opening since it was not tapered (as indicated in owners instructions indicated it would be) Kinda like being is desert and finding stagnant water..better than nothing...

shoddy but works

I've had one for like 30 years or more. It works. It's extremely shoddy construction, and slides fall off it easily. But it works. I can't hardly believe how much money this costs, though. When I bought it 40 years ago it cost like $1.50, but then again my car was only $2.75.

Good slide sorter

Strong metal folding frame. Translucent plastic slide holder is inherently thin so subject to damage, and does not stay attached securely so need to use some Scotch tape to secure it. Suggest using a 5000 degree daylight led or flourescent bulb to get correct colors. Overall much better way to view, cull and sort snapshot slides.

Upon receiving the photo slide sorter I found that the light bulb assembly did not fit into the hole opening in the slide stand, although the instruction sheet stated the bulb casing was tapered to fit. I found out the bulb case was, in fact, not tapered and I returned the item.

Works as expected

The design seems relatively unchanged from the 1960's. The plastic holder more or less fits, but not to any German/Swiss tolerances. I needed to be patient for it to all hold together. The bulb holder is imperceptibly tapered and goes in cord first. I used an LED bulb (110w incandescent equivalent) , bright white, and the illumination was fine. I wished the slides stayed in place just a little better (bigger step on holder??), but this unit served its purpose for me.

It appears the Logan Electric 12 x 16" E-Z View Slide Sorter #1055 - Holds 40 Slides has a 60 watt incandescent rating. If you are looking for a lamp for your usage needs, I would recommend the Eiko Medium Base Self-Ballasted CFLi Lamp (23W, 120 VAC), B&H # EISP23, as a good option for your usage needs.

question

Can I use a 60W replacement LED bulb rated at 800 lumens with a DSLR camera and get good results to digitize 35mm slides?
Asked by: Gary S.
Concerning the Logan slide sorter, absolutely you can use a 60W-rated LED bulb instead of an incandescent bulb. In fact that's the first thing I did with mine and it works beautifully. Generates much less heat, too. With LED, you have (at least) two flavors , daylight and white light. I use daylight.

question

what type of lighting to review slides does this call for?
Asked by: Anonymous
A small incandescent bulb. I started with 25 watt but changed to a fluorescent bulb to avoid heat build-up. Works quite well.
