Tele Vue Tele-Pod Overview

Tele Vue designed their Tele-Pod Alt-Az Yoke Mount for smooth and balanced tracking for optical tube assemblies (OTAs) up to 3" in aperture. It is configured as a dual-fork yoke mount that cradles your OTA at its center of balance for smooth pan/tilt motion with reduced vibrations and smooth-motion altitude and azimuth bearings with tension adjustments. A single control handle enables precise control without the associated vibrations that normally come with moving a mount by hand.

The unique design allows for the OTA to move through an 85 to -10° altitude range from below the horizon (such as viewing from a hilltop) all the way close to the zenith. A scope-stop helps to prevent damage if the objective end "nosedives" down. The Tele-Pod is offered here as a mount head only and comes equipped with 1/4"-20 and 3/8"-16 mounting treads for easy attachment to most photo, video, field, or astronomical tripods. Mounting holes on the azimuth plate are pre-drilled for 1/4"-20 and 3/8"-16 bolts for attaching OTAs.

The TelePod head, like all TeleVue mounts, is ideal for the kind of wide angle astro viewing that TeleVue scopes excel at, and it makes a great nature viewing/birding scope mounts as well. Tele Vue makes four scope mounts, three of which use this head: The TelePod, the Panoramic, and the Gibraltar. If you already have a good heavy duty tripod, you can buy just the head and save yourself a lot of money. I currently have two TelePod heads and an Upswing, which is an earlier version of the TelePod without the azimuth bearing. I’ve got one of the heads mounted on a lightweight Bogen 3001 for use with my TV 60, and one mounted on a Bogen 3046 for my TV-85. Classic Bogen tripod legs are in plentiful supply, and can be had at very reasonable prices used. I paid around $40 for the 3001 and $50 for the 3046 complete with a head.

Great Product, yes would buy again.

I use this to carry my 90mm short tube refractor. Works great on top of Manfrotto 475B Pro Geared Tripod with Geared Column B&H # MA475B MFR # 475B.

What is the inside distance between yoke arms? I would be mounting an AT-72edii. Thanks!

Altazimuth head with handle. Cradle will hold TeleVue scopes up to the TV-85. Not for TV-101, Renaissance, or TV-102. Friction locks in altitude and azimuth allow user to adjust the mount drag for smoothest operation and for balancing the scope. Pre-drilled to accept optional TeleVue Sky Tour computer encoders. 1/4"-20 thread and 3/8" thread holes allow it to mount on any photo tripod legs (not recommended for mounting onto a photo tripod's pan head). The Tele-Pod can also be used with other brands of small refractors. However, the internal width between the vertical sides of the Tele-Pod yoke measures only 5.25", so the maximum width of the mounting rings of another brand of telescope must be smaller than this measurement. In addition, the buyer should keep in mind that the fore-and-aft mounting platform dimension of the yoke is limited and would require a user-supplied adapter plate to install dual mounting rings on the single 1/4"-20 hole available in the Tele-Pod yoke.
