Galaxy Audio JIB/R overview

  • 1Description

The JIB/R Jacks In The Box Source Combiner from Galaxy Audio is a device that frees a channel on a mixing console by allowing you to combine two stereo sources such as a tape, CD, mini disc, or mp3 player into one mono XLR or one 1/4" output. The unit's phantom block feature on the XLR prevents phantom power from reaching the CD/tape players connected to the RCA jacks. The device is a convenient solution for expanding input capacity without having to replace your existing equipment.

    Galaxy Audio JIB/R reviews

JIB/R Jacks In The Box Source Combiner is rated 3.2 out of 5 by 6.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Convenience in a box This little box is great for adding auxiliary inputs to a board that is tight on inputs. It sums two sources into a single mono output. Benefits: two auxiliary inputs into a single mono channel. I think that says it all. Unfortunately, this is only truly practical for any playback or reference situation. There aren't many recording applications where this is would be useful, unless you would like to test your mix in mono through your ipod, cd player, or laptop into your main monitors. (assuming your monitor control does not have a mono selection option). All in all, great little box for a good price that adds convenience to your system.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Passive signal combiner This would have served the purpose of combining a stereo signal to be fed to a subwoofer having only one RCA input. But since it's only passive, it downgraded the signal so low I hardly can hear the subwoofer. I opened it up and tried tinkering with the resistors inside (it has 100K resistor- which is a lot of resistance) but it made the hum audible which makes it more annoying. It would have been perfect for what I'm looking for but an active signal combiner (with a power supply) would have been the ideal one for me.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Does the Job, Does it Well I manage the sound hardware for our congregation. Our mixer has a limited number of inputs. I was able to use this device to properly combine the audio from an MP3 player and a CD player into a single channel on the mixer. At times it can be tempting to just use a Y-cable to do the job, but this can damage sound equipment. This box will do it properly.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Very noisy I had hoped to use this in a live sound situation but it's so noisy that it's unusable. I returned it for repair, but the new (or repaired) one is just as noisy. It sounds like a windstorm when it's plugged into an amp.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Cuts audio signal As much as I wanted this to work, it really cuts down the audio signal compared to an amplified/powered unit.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from JAck in the Box Used the Jack in the Box to connect DVD player to OSP amplified speaker. Works great.
