Matthews Maxi Matthpole Overview

The black, spring-loaded Maxi Matthpole from Matthews offers a unique "expanding casting" that provides pressure for holding the Matthpole in place between door jambs, in window frames, or between floors and ceilings. Use it to clamp various lighting, background, or grip equipment to it with full confidence. It extends from 8 to 15', and weighs 7 lb.

Note: Because tubing can sag over long lengths and when weight is added, the Matthpole may become loose and could come down. It is therefore recommended that vertical Matthpoles with two Super Mafer Clamps mounted at right angles with the use of a #209635 Swivel be used at each end to support the horizontal Matthpole. To avoid damage to the wall or ceiling, Matthpoles should only be used directly in line with studs.

Matthews Maxi Matthpole Reviews

Does what it does best

I needed a tension pole in my studio, both strong to handle the load of cameras and lights, while easy to install and flexible for potential future needs. This is that solution. The tension pole is easy to install and performs its duties without complaint or problem, as long as you do not exceed its potential or arrive with unreasonable expectations. The pole is rigid enough when used properly. Don't install heavy items on one side as it will slowly rotate. Don't tempt fate with the weight you trust to this item. But, if you are looking to buy this pole, you likely have a general grasp of what you are doing, in which case this will perform exactly as you expect and need it to perform.

It's everything I was hoping for. The picture made it seem like it was a smaller one but it is heavy duty, and reaches out to 15ft. I also purchased the clamp and it works Perfectly. Wether it's lights you're hanging or a camera to do an overhead unboxing shot. It's perfect, and very sturdy.

Would it be possible to connect the Maxi-Matthpole to two C-stands in a goal post configuration to hang a backlight or whatnot? If so, what connectors would I need?
Asked by: brett
That should work out fine. Matthllini clamps or Super Mafers w/ Pin(B541004) should do the trick.Thats the simplest way to connect the Maxi-Matthpole to the C-Stands. The 2" Endjaw (420110) is a favorite, but all the Matthellinis will work.

Can it actually reach 15 feet? Other vendors list the max reach as 14' 10", I need something for a ceiling that's exactly 15'.

Matthews website spec is inconsistent. In claims 178" and just under 15' in one paragraph and 187" in another. Shorter number is the one to go with. I've used blocks of 2x4s and 2x6s to add a little rise.

What's at the end of the poles? I need to convert both ends to 1.5 inch diameter so that they fit in my Matthews Wall Spreaders.

The Matthews Maxi Matthpole (Black, 8 - 15') BH #MAPMM95178 is not suitable for use in a wall spreader. You will want to get a single piece of pipe.

The feet on the Matthews Maxi Matthpole (Black, 8 - 15') can be removed but the replacement is the same exact one it comes with. There are no other options for feet.

question

What is the Matthpole made of? Will it stand up to having standard theatre instruments (ETC Source 4) clamped to it or would it dimple?
Asked by: Anonymous
The Maxi Matthpole is made of heavy duty aluminum and would be able to hold an ETC Source 4 unit without an issue.
