Cavision MB385P Reviews

Excellent for the price.

This little beauty works so well on my little PXW-X70. I use it mainly with a B&W 3x3 polariser. The filter holder itself works just as well in the field as anything by Vocas or Chriszeil. The first stage rotates smoothly. Unfortunately there is no tightening screw to keep the first stage in place. To tighten it you need an Allen wrench to hand. And as anyone who uses a clamp-on matte box knows, you really need to tighten the filter holder notch once you've put the filter in or it will fall out the bottom, there being no rails to prevent it. Apart from that, no complaints. The rubber lens hood is the same size and shape as a standard Fujinon broadcast lens. You can use the good old Cavision French flag with this matte box.

Solid, But 3 Filters Hard To Find

This thing is a solid matte box. It works great with my T2i and is perfect size for a DSLR. Its price is fair for what it is, unlike most matte boxes...I guess maybe I'm crazy but paying over $1000 for what amounts to a glorified sun shade (pro matte box) is just a little ridiculous/not worth it. At $ this thing is a deal. Obviously no french flags, etc but the main problem with it is the seriously lack of availability of 3x3 filters! Its nearly impossible to find any 3 Neutral Density or Polarizer filters out there. The stupidest part of this problem is that Cavision themselves actually makes them, but you cant buy them from any retailer that i've been able to find so I'll have to contact @ i guess which is probably gonna cost a lot more than normal in shipping. * oh well...should of looked before I bought it. Live and learn I guess.I just don't understand why B&H can't just stock the 3x3 ND, polarizer, etc?
