Microphone Madness MCSM-4 Overview

The MCSM-4 Miniature Cardioid Stereo Lavalier Microphones from Microphone Madness are lavalier microphones mounted inside two brass cylinders that have been enclosed in a durable rubber coating and terminate into a single 1/8" gold-plated mini-jack connector. They can be used to capture audio with recorders supplying a bias voltage of between 1.5 to 10 VDC (also known as plug-in power).

Each microphone offers a cardioid polar pattern, effective in minimizing off-axis noise and ambience. Each microphone offers a naturally crisp sound, providing deep bass, smooth mid-range, and clean high-frequency response. The two unidirectional mics are combined at the stereo mini-jack to output a stereo signal for recording. The MCSM-4 Miniature Cardioid Stereo Lavalier Microphones are compatible with—but not limited to—the following recorders: Edirol R9, Kodak Zi8 HD pocket video camera, Olympus DS-40, Olympus LS-10, Tascam DR-01, Tascam DR-03, Tascam DR-07, Yamaha CX, Zoom H1, Zoom H2, and Zoom H4N.

Stereo Lavalier
Dual cardioid lavaliers are featured and provide easy microphone placement for stereo capturing.
Single 1/8" (3.5mm) Output
Both elements feature shielded cables and terminate to a single stereo 1/8" output connector. The connector is compatible with microphone inputs that supply a bias voltage of 1.5 to 10 volts D.C. (also known as plug-in power).
Cardioid Polar Pattern
Both capsules provide cardioid polar patterns which are effective in minimizing off-axis audio and noise.

Microphone Madness MCSM-4 Reviews

Good but Bulky

I bought these to use with a Zoom when recording audio for video interviews. They are built solidly of good materials and make excellent recordings when the mics are chin high on the lapel, but they are far too bulky to hide and too large and distracting when left exposed, even when you take off the wind screens. If you are doing audio only, they can't be beat for the price. However, if you are looking for a small Lavalier that you can hide or won't be a visual distraction, these ain't the best choice.

Lovin' these things.

So, I was in NYC and needed an easy (and inexpensive) way to record ambient sounds without being terribly obvious. I used these with my Edirol R-09, and they worked like a champ. They feel solid, the sound was good enough, and the price was AWESOME.

Are these good to capture wildlife and nature sounds when paired with a Sony PCM-D10?
Asked by: Austin
Yes the Microphone Madness MCSM-4 would be ideal for that kind of application.

question

Will this work with plug-in power from these devices: Sony PCM-M10, Zoom H1N, EOS-M3, Canon 5D3 ?
Asked by: Steve
The MCSM-4 can operate on 1.5 to 10 volts and will be compatible with most devices that provide plug in power.
