Tiffen Glimmerglass Overview

The 49mm Glimmerglass Grade 1 Filter from Tiffen is a beauty filter whose function is two-fold: in addition to modifying the appearance of the image itself, it also features a sparkling appearance when viewed from the front, instilling more confidence in the model. The filter itself helps soften skin details, blemishes, and wrinkles. It also produces glowing highlights and a mild reduction in contrast for a more ethereal appearance. The grade 1 diffusion provides a small amount of softening and overall image alteration.

This filter is made using ColorCore technology, a process that involves laminating the filter substrate between two pieces of optical glass, grinding it flat to a tolerance of 1/10,000th of an inch, and then mounting it onto precision metal rings.

Produces glowing highlights and a slight reduction in contrast for a more ethereal image appearance.
Helps soften skin details, blemishes, and wrinkles.
When viewed from the subject's perspective, the filter appears to be sparkling and helps instill confidence in models, resulting in a potentially better performance.

I use Glimmerglass 1 very often and wanted something a bit stronger since I would stack the Glimmerglass 1 filters on another filter. This does the job just as I wanted! It creates bloom but not like a super hazy bloom that some filters do which cover the entire frame.

how does the glimmerglass compare to the cinebloom?

Glimmerglass and CineBloom are essentially the same filters types, but from different manufacturers. I have seen mention that Glimmerglass is more subtle of an effect compared to CineBloom, while having less halation and less contrast loss.

Is there another sized version of this filter? Another store shows 'ultra slim' GG1 in their description.

No, unfortunately there are no 86mm Grade 1 Glimmerglass filters. I even checked their website and it's something they don't have on there either.

I want this filter for my fujifilm 35mm f2, but it seems rare to find and it doesn't seem like a lot of people have it. Is there a reason for it? I can still get it for my 16-80 but prefer 35mm for street.

Do you know what the equivalent strength of the 1 on this filter is? I was just on set where we used 1/8 in 4 x 5.65 and I liked the strength

The Tiffen Glimmerglass 1/8 Filter is not made in a screw on type. That is a very low density. The 77mm circular ones come in 1, 3 and 5. So those will have a stronger effect compared to the 1/8.
