Whirlwind PRESSMITE Overview

The Whirlwind PRESSMITE is a professional, compact active press feed box with the capacity of distributing 12 clean mic level signals and two line level signals and featuring high isolation between outputs. It provides 60 dB of gain adjustment on input, which accepts mic- or line-level signals.

The PRESSMITE features a built-in headphone amp, and it is powered by a pair of standard 9V batteries that typically provide more than eight hours of continuous operation. A Battery OK LED is provided for monitoring. In mic input mode, 18V phantom power is available, and the three-segment LED headroom display enables quick level adjustment.

The PRESSMITE is a rugged, useful tool designed to withstand the rigors and hectic environment of press conferences and other public broadcast events.

It's Pretty Much The Only Game In Town, But...

I purchased this to use at press conferences for the town I work for. We don't need anywhere near 12 outputs, but we DO need a press/mult box that can operate on batteries. This was the least expensive active box made by a major manufacture, so I bit the bullet and used my own $$ to buy it for work. The specs say it can operate for eight hours on two 9V batteries. What I wasn't prepared for was when those batteries got to be two hours old and the unit started to distort so badly that I had to scurry around looking for a 150ft extension cord to plug it in while a conference was in session. That's not going to work for me, so I've returned the unit for a refund, which B&H provided, no-questions-asked. If I knew I would have the luxury of AC power wherever press conferences might take place, this unit (with, perhaps, 6 outputs instead of 12 and a much lower price tag) would be fine. The audio, when the unit is plugged in, sounds crystal clear, and there is plenty of gain with an SM58 plugged directly into it. Disconnect the AC and, if your batteries are not fresh out of the package, you're going to be in for a surprise. :(

Very nice piece of equipment. My techs love it and we are looking to purchase another in the near future. We wish that they had one with 16 channels.
