    Nikon BL-3 reviews

BL-3 Battery Chamber Cover for MB-D10, MB-40 Battery Packs is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 72.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Works well but expensive The MB-D10 grip works best with the BL-3 chamber cover and EN-EL4a battery: - longest battery life - only one battery to charge (instead of 8) - percent remaining charge report in camera - shoot at 8 FPS If you opt for the 8 AA battery choice then: - cheaper as do not have to buy BL-3, EN-EL4a battery and charger - still shoot at 8 FPS - 8 batteries to charge instead of 1 - do not last as long - no percent remaining charge reporting If you opt to use more EN-EL3e batteries in the grip then: - you can only shoot at 5 FPS

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Necessary Purchase One cannot use the rechargeable lithium battery without adding the chamber cover to the Nikon battery pack for cameras designed for it. It seems like Nikon prefers to nickel and dime by selling pieces of necessary items. I understand that using different, less expensive batteries don't require the end cap, but it does seem like an item that might just be sold with the battery pack. Perhaps it is considered too high end an item that would cause the pack to be too expensive for most. I was merely surprised I had to make yet another purchase to get outfitted. However, that said, once purchased, the entire battery pack configuration is absolutely worth the price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Versatility! I own a D3 and a D300s, 3 for photos and the 300s for video. We all know shooting video kills batteries. I love the fact that I don't need to purchase more D300s batteries for my video projects after buying this adapter and a vertical grip. All of my D3 batteries are now compatible with my 300s! The EN-EL4's last longer too, so I don't have to change them near as much as the EN-EL3's. A must have if you already own EN-EL4's and want to use them with your vertical grip! It is a little$pricey though if you don't own a D3 & want to purchase the EN-EL4's (&70ish) and a charger ($100ish) separately..

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Small part adds up to big savings! I shoot news and sports for a local newspaper which uses Nikon products exclusively. We have been using the battery pack with 8 AA batteries for over a year. These always ran out before the game was over.(football, basketball, soccer, etc.) In the two weeks the BL-3 has been in use with the EN-EL4 battery, we have saved at least 32-AA alkaline batteries. That's big money savings. There is no down side to that!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from If You Need It, You Need It What's to say about this item? Either you need it and can't really do without or you don't. If you've got a camera that uses EN-EL4 batteries (F6/MB-40, D2 series, D3, D300/MB-D10, etc), then having an extra BL-3 attached to a spare EN-EL4 in your kit makes swapping batteries much quicker. The included case (which holds the combined BL-3/EN-EL4 unit) is pretty handy too.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A must-have if you use EN-EL4a's Would rate it higher if it weren't a tad expensive for what it is. You must use this with your MB-D10 if and ONLY if you use EN-EL4a batteries. If you use either EN-EL3a or AA's, the battery chamber cover that comes wiht the MB-D10 will do the job.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Must have for MB-D10 & EN-EL4a Batteries Although I originally purchased the MB-D10 for use with EN-EL3a and the AA-Battery tray, after acquiring a D3S camera body I decided to move to a single battery type for all my camera bodies (D3S, D300S, D700). Unfortunately, the MB-D10 doesn't come with this chamber cover which is needed when using the EN-EL4a battery with the MB-D10. A bit expensive, but robust and re-usable. I now use one battery type with all my camera bodies.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Should be included with MB-D10 For the D300 with the MB-D10, if you need to shoot at 8fps you need this cover so you can use the EN-EL4a battery. While you can use NiMH AA batteries, they're heavier and don't last all that long, especially when shooting at high frame rates. ...
