Manfrotto 396B Overview

The Manfrotto Double Articulated Arm has three adjustable sections. The 396 Series of arms is more rigid that the 196 range to support heavier loads -- up to 11 lbs. Its extendable sliding arm system extends up to 34 inches in length, and features a quick lock system.

The bottom spigot is hexagonal, for a sure fit into a Manfrotto or Avenger Super Clamp, or a Matthew Mafer. It also has a universal adapter section for attaching to a wide range of stands, clamps and other grip equipment. This arm also includes a camera platform (bracket) with a standard 5/8 inch spigot receptor and 1/4-20 inch mounting screw.

Easy to use, even in reduced spaces.
Quick lock mechanism needs only a quarter-turn to lock firmly.

Can the camera head be removed? Would like to have hexagonal plugs at both ends of the arm, not just one.
Asked by: Todd
Yes, the camera bracket is part of a bundle, it isn’t a part of the arm itself.

Has anyone tried using this on the camera/tripod as a replacement to a boom pole?
Asked by: Dong Soo
This unit works well when clamped to a tripod leg or stand to hold a camera, flash or monitor, etc... But does not replace a boom pole. A boom pole holds much more weight.

question

weight limit?
Asked by: Anonymous
This is not a rigid structure and the camera will move around if you bump it at all. I don't know the exact maximum limit . I have used it with a Canon EOS 70D and Sigma 18-50 mm zoom. I use remote release or with release through software on my laptop.

question

I have connected the arm to the tripod head. The tripod head is NOT removable. Unfortunately, it has a quick release plate and the weight of the camera (attached to the arm) causes this part to lift out of the tripod and threatens to break. What do you suggest I do to attach the camera arm securely to the tripod? Thank you.
Asked by: Anonymous
Clamp it to a leg or the center shaft. Given the weight you need a real sturdy tripod.
