Manfrotto 396B-3 overview

  • 1Description

The Manfrotto Double Articulated Arm has three adjustable sections. The 396 Series of arms is more rigid that the 196 range to support heavier loads -- up to 11 lbs. Its extendable sliding arm system extends up to 34 inches in length, and features a quick lock system.

The bottom spigot is hexagonal, for a sure fit into a Manfrotto or Avenger Super Clamp, or a Matthew Mafer. It also has a universal adapter section for attaching to a wide range of stands, clamps and other grip equipment. This arm also includes a camera platform (bracket) with a standard 5/8 inch spigot receptor and 1/4-20 inch mounting screw.

Easy to use, even in reduced spaces.
Quick lock mechanism needs only a quarter-turn to lock firmly.

Double Articulated Arm - 3 Sections With Camera Bracket is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 12.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Another great and very versatile arm! Because I was so pleased with the 2 section arm, I bought this one too. It's every bit as rugged and again, solidly built. Depending on it's configured position, it can handle varying amounts of weight. As with the 2 section arm, this is really versatile! A small dSLR and flash units, no trouble - I tested it with a d700 and 24-70 - but absolutely advise against this - I had a very sure, solid setup I was confidant with. Also, you will need a fresh bogen super clamp (critical), have a well used old clamp, buy a new one. Multiple flash setups are no trouble for this arm - it will twist and turn into any conceivable angle. My favorite Bogen / Manfrotto arm is the magic arm - that thing is a rock!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very nice quality! This works perfect with my Manfroto tripod! I definitely recommend a weight so it doesn't tip over and keep in mind that it has teeth that lock together to hold it into place, so you may need to adjust a couple of them to get it pointed exactly where you want it. I definitely recommend this. I chose this one over the 2 section because it's only 20$ more and it gives me more diversity. I was afraid that the other wouldn't do what I wanted and I'd end up buying this one anyway, so really I saved money, time and frustration ;) This is not lightweight, heavy duty!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great item to keep on hand! I am really impressed with this, and continue to be satisfied and more impressed with every new Manfrotto item I buy. This is a great tool to have on hand, even though you might not use it very often. I bought this to get a few trick angles using a few different cameras on a bicycle, and to possibly use for a makeshift Snorricam. So far, so good! The uses for this are limitless. What? You can't quite get that one spot over there lit just right? BOOM! Bust out the 3 section double articulated arm, a few twists and turns, a small camera light, problem solved!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Product I purchased this product w/o completely knowing how I would use it. I knew it would have great potential and the flexibility presents is true to form. Using a Manfrotto Super Clamp I am now using it to support my Focus FS-4ProHD DTE Unit attached to the tripod leg just low enough not to impede panning my camera. The easy lock/unlock knobs makes adjustments easy. And the durability of the design gives me the added security I always get using Manfrotto/Bogen products.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Some great features, could be better... I used this for a remote rig for a baseball shoot... the short turns for the clamps are GREAT! I bought this one because you can/should be able to take it apart to make it a two section arm... well... because Manfrotto doesn't want you loosing the plastic end caps on the tubing... they dimpled the metal into the plastic so you have to dismantle the entire joint to remove a section... so much for that concept.... The Hex shaped post that goes in the super clamp is hex shaped... this is great if you happen to get lucky and have it set up in position where the hexes meet up but if you're in-between, moving the clamp is your option or snarf both pieces and hope it works. The camera mount is great, I do wish the post of the arm and the hole of the camera mount were more in sync with each other, I understand there is a lot of variety out there for equipment but ALL my gear could use some refining to make parts that are universal mate up better, this is no exception.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Saves Money I used this to attach to operate a second camera. I use the super clamp to attach the unit to a tripod leg, which you find in the accessories for this arm. The arm is easy to use, solid, and flexible. A nice substitute for a second camera operator.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Versitile, Team Player I recently added this arm to my grip kit, initially for holding medium sized lights and flash heads. I already had one Magic Arm which has also proven itself worth it's weight in gold when lighting on small sets, cramped quarters or unusual locations. My initial reaction was one of surprise that the joints were mostly made up of plastic - but never fear it has proven to be the good, resilient, tough-type of plastic. I've also used this arm to capture some video footage mounted on the exterior of my truck, once you lock the joints they stay locked! (I've got to add that the new quarter-turn Quick Lock levers rock!) The double bars in each section give quite a bit of rigidity to the arm and the combo round mounting stud with hex collar makes for a lot of placement options in use. The camera I used (Sony A1u) is well under the arm's 11-pound limit and I felt pretty confident in the arm's ability to support it safely, that said I didn't try it at high speeds - just 10-15mph in our parking lot. A lighter (or cheaper) camera would probably inspire even more confidence... ;) If you already have some pieces of Manfrotto's grip gear: super clamps, magic arms, double ball joints, etc... then try one of these arms to really add more flexibility to your grip gear! -Highly recommended.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Manfrotto Double Articulated Arm - 3 Sections With Camera Br After getting a demonstration at the B&H Store, I was impressed by the heavy duty construction of this articulating arm. I feel very confident mounting my Sony AX-100 camcorder on this bracket. The pole clamp which is sold separately, once mounted on any pole and flat surface, will not budge at all. Highly recommended.
