The DR-5 Screw-In Right Angle Viewfinder from Nikon provides an upright, unreversed image for right-angle viewing, very convenient for waist-level or low-angle photography. Individual eyesight adjustment is possible with the built-in diopter, and the reproduction ratio can be set to 1:1 or 1:2. This version is designed to be mounted on SLR cameras that have a 22mm round high eye-point viewing eyepiece thread.

    Nikon DR-5 reviews

DR-5 Screw-In Right Angle Viewfinder is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 87.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from The NIKON unit is worth the difference I have used the less expensive universal fit right angle viewers sold under various names and while they are usable the attachment to the camera is not as secure as the direct screw in threads of this NIKON unit. Granted it costs as much as 5 times more but the reduced frustration level in the field is worth every penny. I shoot wildlife and nature and the finder affords the ability to place the camera at ground level without having to lay down too. While the D700 I use this with has live view I personally find it easier to focus off of the ground glass. The included case is nice as it keeps dust off of the optics while in storage in my photo vest.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Lack of info I use this product to make picture close to ground. I hate to lay on the ground and bend my neck at 90 degres BW. This equipement save me all the paint. It does a GREAT job. It is my second one. The first on was a DR-6 for my D300 (still in use) One draw back: It is a pain in the neck to find the way to install DR-5. The informations are scared and VERY hard to find. The pdf file ( which is easy to use) gave me a hard time to find the solution. I think NIKON is losing a lot with is way of treating customers. I would have been so easy to add instructions with a picture on how to remove the ring from the camera.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Disappointing Design I am a professional photographer and long time Nikon shooter. The design of this viewfinder has many flaws. It is never really secure when screwed in the eyepiece and requires constant attention. The focus needs to have some sort of indexing so that the photographer does not have to repeatedly adjust focus, very annoying. Has very bad focus vignetting only about 1/3 of the very center is actually in focus. Overall very disappointing especially when talking about a $ item. Should not have the Nikon name on it.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Swivelling Never Stops I agree completely with the reviewer that pointed out that there is no way to secure the viewer at whatever position you choose for viewing your scene. I still swivels freely with the slightest touch or bump of the tripod. It's such silly engineering that one might expect that a part was left out when they packed the thing. I'll try roping it in place with rubber bands, but what a mess!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Happy with my New View finder I just received my DR-5 today it took some thinking and looking at the back of my Nikon D3s and you must remove the small rubber piece on the view finder then remove the ring that holds that rubber piece on it turns to the left But before that you must turn the small switch to close the viewfinder on the back of the camera.Once you have that off you put the adapter piece that comes with the Dr-5 then you can screw the DR-5 on the back of the camera.I have saw other reviews about this product and was not sure about buying it.I glad I did get it finally

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works well except for flimsy adapater The right angle viewfinder gives a clear view and the 2X magnification is great for manual focus. My only complaint concerns the plastic adapter to fit the DR-5 to the D2 and F6 cameras. It should be made from metal instead of plastic considering the cost of the finder.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Very Useful Accessory Being handicapped with bad knees, this item is very useful for those low-angle landscapes, eye level shots of children and animals, as well as macros. Well made and durable, it can be attached or removed very quickly.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Two small gotcha's out of the box ...... How to get the view finder lens off the D4 was challenging and it would come loose. Then I learned about the small knob to close the viewfinder. Then I learned about the two opposes small buttons that need to be depressed as you rotate it and it then locked. Also there is a focus/diopter adjustment on the vertical section that will need to be adjusted. Now, I am very pleased at the new perspective I can get. I am very satisfied
