    Avenger D600 reviews

    D600 Mini Boom (Chrome-plated) is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 194.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from It's a mini beast! I had this in my wish list to go with my avenger stands. While attending a lighting workshop in my area, they had one of these slick puppies in the studio. It is extremely sturdy, and it was designed intelligently enough to have a hook for holding sandbags built in. I have others that just provide a hole you can stick your own hook through. The two very minor downsides (and it won't stop me from buying a second one of these) are that 1) it is quite heavy, and 2) the stud is just a tad too big. It is right at the upper limit of the 5/8 spec, so some lights might be hard to mount without a little filing of either the stud or the receptacle on the light.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Solid, but not perfect While this is a solid piece of gear, it's not perfect. Presently, it's being used to support a hair light (Ultra 600 with barn doors and grid) with a total weight of about 8 lbs. At its present extension of 28, there is no slippage. However, at extension lengths beyond this, there is increasingly more slippage to the point of total slippage at full extension. Although the product description indicates support of up to 15.4 lbs at maximum extension, I don't find this to be accurate. Accordingly, I think this boom functions best with shorter extensions and lighter loads.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Solid, fundamental piece of kit This boom is basically a modified C-stand. The pictures don't convey that as well as they could, but it is literally a C-stand with a foam handle instead of a base. And with a connector welded to the center of it for mounting. Super solid, you can rely on it like you would a C-stand. This is just a good no-frills piece of equipment that does what it is supposed to do without any complication. Mine punctured the box it was shipped in (on both ends), and was sliding out. It should probably be packaged better. A lot of people here are suggesting you use a C-stand to support this boom but it really should be on something with a wider footprint than that.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The mule If you are looking for a heavy duty boom arm that's it. It's a mule for fundamental versatile studio work. There are few more other options that are either fancier (like with a rotation arm etc.) or for heavier equipment (e.g., movie equipment), but they are more expensive. If you are a studio photographer looking for a boom arm which is simple, durable, safe (make sure that your strobe does not fall down in the middle of the shoot) and for a plausible price this is it. You can use it for outdoor, too, if you have strong arm muscles and don't care too much carrying aroundor have a strong assistant who will do it for you without complaning.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from High Quality, VERY Heavy I read the reviews here and made the mistake of assuming that folks were exaggerating the weight and build quality of this boom. Uh, no. The reviews are NOT exaggerated. My 17 year old son, who weighs about 130 pounds, can literally do pull-ups on this thing. I bought this with the intention of flying a Canon Speedlight. Can you say overkill?? Like others here, I don't actually currently own a light stand that's designed to support a boom of this weight and quality. Given the light stands that I *do* own, and for the type of work that I do, I should probably send it back - but instead I'm going to keep it and grow into it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great boom Great boom, its solid and well built, not some cheap junk that will flop around. Extends smooth and is all steel so its strong. I prefer the supple feel of the cushioned grip over the matthews boom, essentially they are identical. Solid feel to the locking handles, the pivot locks tight, and the hook allows hanging weight off the back. I used it in a pinch to play stick ball too and it survived no problem, actually I consistently hit the ball over the roof time and time again. You wont regret getting this boom, solid for holding pretty much any light combo you can think of. I use it for big mono lights with large parabolics and softboxes

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Money Well Spent This is the Mini Boom you want so don't bother looking any longer. >Extremely easy to adjust >Knobs are large and feel very positive when you cinch down the boom arm >Locks down very nice on 5/8 light stand stud >Smooth as silk operation >Very stable. It's heavy but I completely appreciate the build quality when hoisting a medium sized soft-box and 2 SB800's over my subject. The only limitation I can see at this point is my B&H # IMLS96HAB light stand, it's a great stand for what I'm using it for. However, I would highly recommend B&H # AVA2030D for maximum stability, I'll be purchasing this very soon. The bottom line is simply this, get the D600 Mini Boom and you will not be disappointed.
