Optimized for wide-field astronomy such as comet hunting, satellite spotting, or watching for iridium flares, the Nikon 10x70 Astroluxe Binocular is an ideal companion for dark and starry nights.

The Astroluxe is outfitted with relatively low magnification to ensure a generous field of view and wide exit pupil for easier viewing — especially when holding them by hand. The traditional Porro prism light path presents a rich depth of field, while the BAK4 glass produces a round exit pupil and virtually eliminates spherical aberration at the edges for flat views without comas or fringing. Complementing these optical features are winged eyecups that conform to the user's face, keep stray ambient peripheral light from interfering with the view and causing distractions, and increase contrast and clarity.

The chassis design has an ergonomic feel in the hand that places the grip in a natural and balanced position, with textured armoring to further improve grip security. Both optical tubes are nitrogen-filled to be waterproof and resistant to the internal fogging that can occur when moving from the inside of a warm house to the outside into cold winter or sultry humid summer nights. Weighing in at almost 4.5 pounds, holding the Astroluxe can cause some users to experience arm fatigue — especially during long observation sessions — so Nikon includes an adapter to mount them onto a wide variety of photo, video, or field tripods for hands-free use to ensure vibration-free views and easier tracking of fast-moving subjects.

Optical Performance
  • 10x power allows users to enjoy a magnified view without sacrificing exit pupil diameter
  • 70mm objectives draw in the large amount of light required for dedicated astronomical binoculars
  • Traditional Porro prism design makes it comfortable to hold, and presents a rich depth of field
  • BAK4 prism glass delivers a round exit pupil and a crisp and clear image with limited edge distortion
  • Fully multi-coated optics, engineered specifically for nighttime use, maximize light transmission for improved color rendition, contrast, and clarity
  • 267-foot field of view at 1000 yards
Use and Handling
  • Individually focusing eyepieces ensure tack-sharp views, regardless of individual optical prescription
  • 56-72mm interpupillary distance adjustment range
  • Fold-down rubber eyecups for easy use when wearing eyeglasses
  • Tripod mountable with optional adapter for hands-free use eliminates distracting vibrations/hand shake and prevents arm fatigue from holding them
  • Long 16.3mm eye relief improves viewing comfort with reduced eye strain, especially during long observation sessions
  • Ultra-wide 7mm exit pupil will completely cover pupils when they are fully dilated in the dark

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Binos!!! Got the Astroluxe 10x70 to complement our Nikon 7x50 SPs for astronomy and terrestrial viewing. Great image quality from edge to edge, and the individual focus allow you to tailor performance to suit each eye. Details on the moon are impressively revealed and in dark skies the stars seem to leap out of the black background. These Nikons are big, heavy and expensive - get yours now, you won't regret it!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from needs synchronized focus I use the 10x70mm binoculars for sky watching. The light collection is great. The only problem is that both eyes must be independently focussed and this requires two hands. I have to take the binoculars down and fool around with them and still not know that I have the best focus.
