A long-reaching super telephoto designed for sports, wildlife, and nature applications, the AI-S NIKKOR 600mm f/4s IF-ED from Nikon is a manual focus lens featuring AI-S automated aperture control. The optical design incorporates a pair of extra-low dispersion elements to reduce chromatic aberrations and color fringing for improved image quality and color accuracy, and a UV filter is incorporated into the lens' design to both protect as well as cut haze while shooting. Benefitting the manual focus operation of the lens is a preset focusing aid that allows for intuitive rapid re-focusing to a specific set point. An internal focusing design is also employed to maintain the overall lens length as well as promote smoother handling.
The large overall size of the lens is benefitted by an integrated tripod collar, which features a rotating ring for smooth and quick switching between horizontal and vertical shooting orientations. Additionally, a rear 39mm drop-in filter slot is featured as well as a built-in telescoping lens hood.
