Nikon AS-15 overview

  • 1Description

The Nikon AS-15 enables the connection of flash sync cords fitted with standard PC-type connector to the camera body via the built-in hot shoe.  It is suitable for cameras that do not feature a PC-sync terminal; it has a PC female socket upon its side, and you would attach a cord with a "PC male" end upon it just as if you were using a camera's PC female socket.

Note: This does not provide high-voltage sync protection, and is not recommended for flash units that have more than 6v.

Nikon AS-15 reviews

AS-15 Sync Terminal Adapter (Hot Shoe to PC) is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 175.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from good for D700 The threaded pc terminal on the body of the D700 is in an awkward location, its really hard to get the cables to screw to the terminal unless you have tiny fingers. I know most of us use Pocket Wizards anyway, but occasionally I need to connect a handle mount flash....after wasting time fussing with the tight location of the body pc terminal, I dug this guy out of my bag....fast and no more synchs popping out unexpectedly. It's lame to have to give up the use of the hot shoe on top of the camera for this, but it is no big deal to connect multiple flashes to the camera body with multi port PW's, just more cables to buy from them....

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Need a hardwired flash sync sometimes? Have a DSLR w/no PC connection? Need to hard wire sync to that strobe? This works well, this is my second one purchased (small. easy to misplace). DO NOT use to hook up to high voltage sync strobes (in my case Norman 200 Bs), said to fry digital cameras. AS-15 seems better made than other options.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from The only way to connec my studio strobes I have a number of Speedotron strobes and flashheads that I use in my studio. The first time I setup my new Nikon D7000 for an assignment, I made all of the needed settings, got connected to my laptop and discovered that I could not sync my strobes to the camera. The camera has a built in flash, a hot shoe, but nowhere could I find a sync outlet for my pc cord. I looked in the manual and learned that I needed an accessory to accomplish this.I called Nikon and they confirmed that an AS-15 Sync Terminal Adapter could be purchased and attached to the hot shoe. I called B&H and they overnighted the adapter so I could shoot the following day with the D7000. It works fine!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works perfectly This worked perfectly to sync my Nikon D-80 to our new studio light setup. The only thing that would make it better is if it had two connecting points so that I could sync both my key and fill lights and only slave the backdrop light.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from able to hook up old Sunpak to new nikon Got me a New Nikon D3000 digital SLR and am happily finding that my old hardware (AI Lenses and other accessories) is again useable with the assistance from products like this hot shoe adapter. Odd that you have to pay nearly $1000 to get a D-SLR with a X-Synch plug built-in. With the little goodie I can use my Sunpak Auto544 mondo flash with bounce head and have the new digital on manual mode and it works fine. The plug should either be in the side or even on the top--not mounted facing the front of the camera--I found this placement to be a bit odd

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Cheap alternative to radio triggers I went with the name brand part because the knock-offs looked too cheap. I'm using this to connect an SB-800 to my D80 and it works fine. The plastic is a bit thin for my tastes, but the unit seems rugged regardless.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works as prescribed I bought this for use on my D5000 to sync with my studio lights (interfit). This product attaches securely and dependably fire my strobes. Its plastic, feels like something you don't want to handel roughly. Its small and out of the way except for the sync cord you have attached to it. I like it and recomend it for those looking for a cheaper alternative to radio triggers or just for dependable fires for those who have cameras that are not pc sync equipped.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Added Feature of AS-15 I use this to provide a PC Terminal for my Nikon D-60 and D-80. If you buy a Paramount Sync Cord from B&H with a Nikon PC Screw-Lock terminal, you can screw your sync cord into this unit and it will NOT fall out . They offer this type of connector with whatever end you need like a PC terminal or AC terminal. You just need to be gentle when you screw the Nikon PC Screw-Lock into the AS-15. I had to take one of mine apart to fix the wires inside once. Overall a good solution especially when using a Nikon PC Screw-Lock cable.
