The DK-20C +1.0 Correction Eyepiece for Rectangular-Style Viewfinder from Nikon allows you to optimize your SLR/DSLR viewfinder's sharpness in conjunction with your individual eyesight. Nikon SLR/DSLR cameras (without built-in adjustable eyepiece correction) have a base diopter value of minus one. Minus one is considered the optimum starting point for the majority of SLR/DSLR users with normal vision. The combination of the camera's viewfinder components and a clear (standard) eyepiece form a virtual image of a subject on the camera's focusing screen that is the approximate equivalent of a viewing distance of one meter.

Nikon DK-20C Overview

Each Nikon eyepiece diopter incorporates a numerical value, represented by a minus value (nearsighted) or a plus value (farsighted) number, enabling you to select the appropriate diopter for your vision and your camera model.

The eyepiece's diopter value is, when combined with the viewfinders minus one value, the end-result value. No combination of the camera's base value of minus one and a given accessory diopter's value is required to arrive at the final desired value. In other words, if you require a diopter of plus 3, simply add a plus 3 diopter to your camera.

Nikon DK-20C Reviews

Using it to cheat viewfinder magnification on a D3500.

The Nikon D3k and D5k viewfinders have significant variation in magnification as one adjusts the diopter setting. I am far- sighted. This +1.0 allows me to have perfect viewfinder focus at minimum diopter setting which is also the greatest magnification. Perceived view is nearly same as a D7k body. YMMV.

Works well with the diopter, only complaint is rubber eye does not fit on it

Works perfectly

Provides the exact extra correction that I couldn't quite dial in on the built-in diopter adjustment. No need for glasses using the optical viewfinder.

Diopter adjustment on the camera itself was a little out of range for my eye(s). This, in combo with the built adjuster made, every thing perfectly clear (focused).

An ugly solution

This component is cheap as the camera it goes on. I bought it for a D7200 to correct my vision at +1 because the adjustment command on the camera was already fully turned. Contrarily to the diopters on the D800 series, this one needs a hammer to be inserted, then it does no longer allow the rubber eye piece to be mounted. Nikon support confirmed that you can have one or the other, not both. Yes, it might help to correct the vision but the camera without the rubber piece looks uglier than it was already. It is not B&H fault, but Nikon's; I won't return it but won't use it either.

question

I just received this diopter and I'm curious if the DK-23 eyecup will fit the diopter once in place. If not, is there another eyecup that will work?
Asked by: Anonymous
According to Nikon, it isnt possible to use an eyecup in front of the DK-20C, so you wouldnt be able to put the DK-23 in front of the correction eyepiece.
